Use only R9 fuel hose they said - does genuine R9 exist?
Discussion
I was so pleased to find Gates Baricade hose in the UK from Moss and got it expressed out to me from the UK at great expense. I was shocked to see that in the end it turned out to be the low pressure 'only for carburettor cars' type and is not suitable for our cars, and that is all they had.
I have searched high and low, all over the net. Ebay is full of white printed R9 hose that Southways told us to avoid in an alert recently and many have said is Chinese crap that might be R6, as well as R7, rebranded. Car Builder Solutions sell an 'Ethanol proof' hose but does not quote (or know either when I called them) what SAE rating their hose is. The DIN code seems the same as R6, but that's it.
Then many mention Advanced Fluid Solutions, but although they sell R9, a quick search finds many (especially in the aircooled world of VW's) saying that AFS hose is the same as the Ebay stuff and will only last six months.
So it is all well telling us to use R9 or our cars will burst into flames, or to only buy Codan, Goodyear or Goodrich hoses, but where on earth can you buy this stuff from without waiting an age for it to come from the USA? My car is in bits now and I need to get some hose quick.

It has the same white printing on the side that a lot of the Southway 'Ebay' types have in their alert. The writing should be embossed, not white printed apparently.http://www.powersperformance.co.uk/store/slug/fuel...

I only use these people and suggest others do also used them a few times and got what I wanted every time buy branded Codan,Goodyear,Gates,Continental/Conti Tech nothing else will do http://www.flexiducting.co.uk/products/goodyear-r9...
Advanced Fluid Solutions sell DIN 73379-3E specification hose which is equivalent to SAE R9.
As I said, I've looked up AFS and they have a bad rep for the products they sell. There are many complaints that their hose does not last more than a few months.
If flexiduct sell genuine Goodyear I'll call them on Monday as they have no further information on their website. It doesn't say what pressure it is for and if it is suitable for fuel injection though.

If your pipes are in the original location then you can't really work from underneath the car.
I ended up taking off the plenum which was time consuming in itself as it would not come clear of the trumpets without a lot of force. I then had to take off the heater cables as I couldn't get my hands near the pipes.
I don't know how people can change them in a couple of hours, took me that long get the two pipes off.
I expect to spend that much time again putting it back together again tbh.

How difficult is it to change - access via jack / stands?
Cheers

I managed to do mine from above and underneath. I used the old line on the drivers side to pull a new piece through and just about managed to get my hands on the copper pipe underneath to do the clip.Cheers
Andrew
The passenger side is awkward but i managed to reach it with the plenum top loose and moved slightly, all from above.
I think id change the lot to complete lengths of braided with no joints if i could be sure it would last, or make new copper lines that go further into the top of the engine bay, so only very short lengths of rubber that were accessable.

Got it from here in the end. Spot on good quality stuff and good service too. Recommended.
But those changing those hoses, worse job I have ever done on this car and I did a partial body lift last year too.
Thought while I am at it to do the back ones too, the tank connection I think will give me some grief, and that looks perished.
Can it be done without draining the tank?
