"On days like these"
I was half hoping you'd show up Griff so we could admire your pipes wink

On days like these you can't beat this Tivvin lark. smile

Good to meet up with other Tvr nutters and the cars looked fab boys. Nice little convoy from pub to pub, chin wag and general greatness ensued and a nice lazy drive back to Southam following Blaze away.
We are lucky aren't we smile

Nice pics Jason. Topman. I started in Warwickshire and ended up in Gloucestershire and back to Warks again all on country roads and there's something I always get reminded of when following a TVR or six, just how ace they look on the move, really makes me appreciate them more and it's only from 20 meters back do you really hear the sound of them properly and it's better than you imagine even biggrin
Good to meet you all again today guys. thumbup

There really isnt better than windscreen full of chim and rear view mirror too. Then there is the noise, did you see we stopped all those folks walking down Burford High St who watched as we rumbled by.

Yes hehe they were looking at yours frownbiggrin
It only happens when here's more than one of you it seems, being behind you I had full view of the joy you were offering up these poor souls laugh brilliant Frank. Cars looking really cool dude. The colour gets people, mines to errrrr blue and boring!!!!
And because I was behind you the audible delight is way up there, although your fuelling choked me hehe,,,,as does mine de Catt! As a kid I had a Suzuki TS 250cc trail bike, my mate had one too and we came along the Banbury road together after looking at a Landie in Burford for sale smile two identical engines and musical note, it started raining so on knobblies were flat out,, 65 mph in a head wind coming home and he'd took behind me, get a toe and pull alongside or get a wheel ahead then everything being equal and the wind taking over we'd be neck and neck, that two stroke thrashing noise together was was like pure music, yesterday was the only other time I've had that mix of two very similar engine notes creating a little symphony of sound that spell binds not just me by the look of joy on those faces Frank, moments like that last. Such a thrill being out with other Tiv owners.. hey lads we should look to meet at a pub with a basic plan of a road trip around the villages for an hour, I did it with lads in Leicestershire and going through those villages with half a dozen of you in Tivs on a nice day, what memories are made of and you stop the towns and villages in your tracks as everybody admires/ scorns smiles and wave at you, makes the hard work keeping these cars going seem worth it in a big way. Awesome smile

V interesting observation.

I think Im burning way too much juice. How much did you use on yesterdays trip ? I used a a whole tank full. Seems a lot when the whole trip was only about 140 miles. What do you think ?

Your profile says Chim 4.0.
If so, you should get nearer double that mpg.

If you don't mind the journey, go and see Jools (www.kitsandclassics.co.uk) in Chesterfield. He can diagnose your issue and remap your ECU if needed. Or take it to your regular TVR guy. No way should it be running that rich. Air leaks after the AFM are one cause of overfuelling.

I have rover gauge and thats not showing any issues.

So without just replacing parts willy nilly whats the best way to proceed ?

Get an expert to look at it. If it is really using that much fuel there is something amiss

I have a feeling that if you get the engine running and then squirt something like carb cleaner at all the joins after the AFM, including where the plenum joins the top of the engine, you should hear the engine note change when you squirt where it is sucking air in.

But we need an expert to comment. I am to engineering what my wife is to geography......and she believed me when I told her that County Mayo is the sandwich capital of Ireland.

Wow! I used less then half a tank full Frank!!!! And I was late so tonne + on the way here and there, loads of childish accelerations as it's the weekend before I even got there. Your stepper on the way wouldn't have helped. It's running sweet though, sounded exactly like mine I thought,
,,,, fast smile nothing's wrong with components by the sound of it, a Joolz re map might be money very well spent. Any anomalies he'll diagnose pretty quickly id imagine.
I started with just under a full tank, inbetween full and 3/4 so easy another 10 ltres would go in from past experience and today it registered half way and I've done another 20 miles since then and it's dead centre half way now!!!! But that's means I've got about 100 miles left in there?!?! So even with honing about 250 miles and in this heat, it's proper impressive I think. thumbup
Someone mentioned 0.03p better economy over CUX, bks, way way better than that. smile

Cheers for that Alun. I will do a brim to brim check for mpg. Have sorted the stepper now runs sweet and steady at 900 rpm. Also found a loose plug extendet on 8. I've never managed your mpg so will call Joolz.
Cheers.

Drag racing I used about £20 I seem to remember, not even that hehe 12 runs over two days I did so that's another marker.
Iridium 6 grade plugs, a recommendation that's proved very effective especially on initial start up, and not black like 7's have always been on my engine since re build.
Stepper motors will never give you the economy I'm getting I don't think. On steady runs yes but over all these different parimeters no chance. Mine did 20 mpg at best on CUX unless on long straight roads then it did 25 and once about 27 mpg but the drive was more like the acceleration of a bus to manage that, pointless! At 90 mph mine will do 27 mpg or it did in France last year on Mbe and still needed mapping tweaks as I'd rushed Dom to get it back to me and he hadn't finished. Awesome, have a drive at Shakey and see what you think. smile
