My car has ac so fitted a dayco 7pk2092 and a new tensioner, as supplied by tvr parts and for the first 10 seconds of starting, it shrieks when I blip the throttle.

Say 10 mins later I put the ac on, the same again for about 10 seconds until it 'warms up'.

Just ordered a Gates 2090, if this turns out the same then what's up here?

Did it shriek before you changed the belt and tensioner?
Quick test: as soon as you start the engine and the belt is shrieking, spray the belt lightly with WD40. If the noise goes away then the rubber belt is the cause.
Try refitting your old belt to confirm.

also oddly there are two ways the belt can be fitted and still "tension up" the incorrect way offers less wrap somewhere possibly alternator?
[i apologise if i am stating the obvious]

The old belt was pre ac so wrong length now.

As far as I know there is only one way to route the belt around the wheels, isn't there?

Please post a photo of the front of your engine, showing the route the belt takes as best you can..

With a serp engine without a/c it is definitely possible to put the belt on in more than one way, as I did, and the wrong way is liable to slip on the alternator, as the previous poster says

Could it be slightly mis alignment on the new pulley, instead of running in the groove, it could be just out, screeching untill the rubber warmed up and became more pliable.

is it a factory a/c system or aftermarket retro fit?

I recently replaced the belt on an a/c equipped car with the factory setup using a 7PK2080 without issue

Tvr parts supplied me with a 2092 and said that was the correct size when I told them about the squeal.

The tensioner has 2 lines cast into the edge which would indicate they should be aligned when the belt is in tension. However they are almost at the limit of travel (tightest) so I'm not sure you would still be able to install the belt. The inference though is that the tensioner should be as near as possible to its tightest.

It is a factory compressor so all wheels should be standard.

A belt that is 10mm shorter as you say makes sense but does anyone have a tvr source that confirms that these shorter belts are the correct size.

My car has factory a/c and has a 2092 mm belt which gives no trouble and gets a lot of use.

Both Powers and TVR Parts say the part number is P0139 for late models with aircon. Unfortunately they don't give the length and both are closed now.

Fitted a Gates 2090 yesterday and although the shriek at start up is still there, it goes away more or less a couple of seconds later.

Can the tensioner be adjusted to move further away to increase the tension on the belt?

As I said this started when I fitted an ac compressor and had to change the belt and tensioner. This is also with me starting the car from cold with the ac off.

Have you tried getting someone else to start the car with your head under the bonnet?
