For a comparison.

My 5.5 NA runs an ally rad which is meticulously sealed around the edges to the bodywork.
I run a huge air/oil cooler that sits in front of the rad, probably covering 2/5ths of the rad.
I have cut 2 x vents in the lower part of the nose and fitted a CF splitter that MAY divert more air into the nose, (I certainly hope so!).

Road temps are on average, 80-85 water, 80-90ish oil.

Track temps are water, a pretty much constant 85 and oil 95-105 then slowly climbing until I usually come off at about 107 after about 10 laps which is plenty.

Certainly suggest sealing around the rad first, fitting an accurate oil temp gauge and then depending on findings possibly a larger oil cooler.

people rarely post about what's gone wrong with their FI route.
I blew a turbo seal twice, first one was bad luck as it was faulty from new. Otherwise no prob's though I did purpose build it for FI. Only problem now is that I'm now really regretting selling it weeping
Same as mine. Original turbo blew an oil seal within 500 miles. New one fitted and been fine since so put it down to a manufacturing issue.

Does anyone know the Turbocharger (manufacturer) that comes with the Eann Whalley kit?

This is very impressive, how many miles have you put on the engine since going FI?

How exactly do you manage crankcase ventilation now?

What engine management system do you run?

Thanks, Dave.
Even more impressive bearing in mind you put it all the kit together and fitted yourself.....respect!

I still think the RV8 is a strong engine, it has its weaknesses but 118,000 on aceofhearts and mine has nearly 93,000 and its as strong as ever. Yes I've changed the cam etc but there was not that much wear on the original. Like others have said before I also think they are better off being used regularly with some decent miles put on, instead of oil drain with long periods of inactivity.

Thanks Dave, around 3000 miles since installation now. Running MS2 fuel and ignition with Ford coil packs.

Crankcase vent is to a single catchtank open to atmosphere. I do plan on adding a second to the other bank at some point though.

I should really copy the build thread over from retrorides at some point

^ is there a reason why you're running open vents?

Mainly packaging as the air filter is mounted directly on the turbo so there is nowhere for me to tap into to get vacuum. Another possible plan is to modify the air filter to take a tapping but at the moment its working fine so I have little incentive to fiddle

If going the S/C route which would be the best cam kit to install with a top end refresh?
I was thinking of sticking to the standard Kent or going for the MC1 as the prices are very similar.

Ah, ok. I always ran with a pcv circuit because when I tried an open circuit the car stank of fumes.

Phil, that sounds much better! I think some of the other clips out there make the turbo sound rather underwhelming!

Yes it does still sound nice but in reality it probably is a bit quieter now....but I think with the right exhaust set up it could be really nice. Full sleeve with the turbo was mad....not really in a good way though, so maybe part sleeved or ACT maybe.

Its a tough call with which to go for but the SC is maybe easier to get the right noise....but I think the turbo offers more options and potential as said before. Whatever figures you have to start off with you will likely want more until the power is unusable.

Thats my take anyway.

Its a good debate this SC / turbo thing. Its horses for courses and each to their own with no right or wrong answer.

To me the SC package looks so good. Neat tidy and i have to say i even like the intercooler pipes. So for me as i prefer the look of the SC and the fact that i wouldnt have to give up any noise it would be my choice.

Drove around 100 miles today chatting to ClassiChimi. Car lovely and quiet....on the M25 and M1. I must be getting old.......because I enjoyed it more than the usual deafening noise

The joys of turbo ownership.

Enjoyed the talk/torque. No whoosh. I just floored it in 3rd/4th, didn't change gear.

Hi Mike, thanks for that!
Car has been faultless in my ownership really, im just getting that urge for a bit more poke now as we all do from time to time.
I would consider trading up so to speak but I do have a budget to stick to.
