Removed the front wishbones this weekend from the car for refurb but it seems I have some nylon thrust washers missing. All bolts were very tight so they hadn't fallen out.

I've done some searching and it appears they should be present whenever a bush is bolted to the chassis. However, the lower rear bush didn't have any fitted. Were they missing or is this normal? I only have 12 instead of the expected 16. Note to self: Take close up photos before starting. frown

The upper rear wishbone does not appear to have any fitted at all. This may be because the front upper bolt also secures the top of the rear shock absorber but the upper rear bolt does not have any fitted either or where the upper rear wishbone bolts to the upright.

Some were fitted with and some without. I think the later cars had them fitted and others have probably been added as replacement bushes etc have been added to the car.
They don’t really do a lot anyway imho.

Your still pinching the lugs to the tubes running through the bushes and many of my washers run free as no pressure is really applied to them.
Or some crap mechanic gave up trying to get them in there in the first place scratchchin

I'm fairly sure it was the lower rear bush where they weren't fitted because the bolt goes into the outrigger just before it joins the chassis rail and so has no flange to bolt against.

I was under the impression they help reduce the possibility of bush 'creep' under load but I suppose if the outer bush sleeve moves, the inner rubber and so the bush has had it anyway (!), so I'm inclined to agree with you that they probably don't do much.

SC Power sell entire kits of them though for front and back so there must be a demand.

I suppose if they are fitted and pinched up nicely the car might be more solid feeling but I have my doubts. I had one wishbone Bush that was pressed in slightly to far so I couldn’t get the thrust washer on one side to go in and being impatient to get the car working left it out, I’d read how these bushes came along later in production and if you look at it they simply fill a gag so just look good.
It’s still the bush centre tube your bolt and lugs grip too. Any real load on them would knacker them in no time I reckon.
I’d still rather have them than not as it’s a placebo thing
Obviously your only pinching up to the bush centre to take up slack so there’s never going to be much force or load applied to them. They look nice smile
