Plenum sealing
Discussion
I'll be lifting my plenum lid off in the next couple of weeks and was wondering why there isn't a gasket of some sort to ensure a good seal. It would be simple enough to cut one out of 2mm rubber or cork sheet. Has anyone done this? Is there a reason for the metal to metal seal. Last time I did this I used Hylomar Blue which pretty much squeezed out of the joint during tightening
When I last has a plenum off, I used black RTV silicone as used by the dealers. It's only a few quid a tube. It's also handy in other applications too.
I always though it was because you need something that will allow for large temperature changes and still be airtight. That, and casting imperfections.

It supposed to squeeze out but what needs to stay filling minor imperfections does, Hylomar not the most hi-tech sealer but it does this job perfectly and removal is easy using just brake cleaner or carb cleaner, no need for anaerobic sealers or RTV's etc , I have only ever used Hylomar on many never a problem yet but then I wouldn't expect one either its a simple job for a simple sealer Edited by Sardonicus on Saturday 24th February 21:01
