I browse as I’m looking for a project car but to be honest this lockdown has had me doing a few months of work on the exterior of the house and the garden!

When I do find something, I am hoping the circumstances hopefully create a bargain. Not good from the sellers point of view but where there are losers there are winners. Usually I am on the losing side but you never know!

Back to reality. Can one get the same enjoyment from building a new chicken enclosure and working on the roof of the house as working on a project classic car. I don’t think so. Needs must for now.

Have looked for a project but nothing entertaining yet.

Do I miss my 5.5. Yes for the nostalgia and ultimate acceleration. Apart from that I am very happy with my P and use it nearly every drive out.

My new TVR.......

Only 3.4 times smile

This isn't the thread to extoll its virtues. Let's just say they are completely different and given the circumstances I am very happy. I have had fantastic times in my TVRs. Great track and drag days and have met a lot of new friends. I'm sure those friendships will continue but I have moved on.

Of course, we will meet again, don't know where, don't know....................when.

Yes it is.

My friend and neighbour has a 22 year old 996 Boxster that my son services for him. Absolutely immaculate!
Mine is 12 years old and hasn't a spot on it, even on the underside, hence why I bought it.
My recently sold 19 year old vRS was practically concourse.
I guess it's all down to the owner and looking after it, very, very few do.

Here's another one of my new TVR with the old one sulking in the background.

That looks a very elegant and stylish Boxster all due IMO to having the dark red hood. There are so many with silver coachwork and black roofs that you wouldn’t look twice at, but that one looks really appealing just down to the hood colour.

Thank you for that. It is a limited edition RS 60 Spyder.

Special wheels, subtle body kit, rear GT silver and red hood and a red leather interior. They only made 1960 of these, all the very similar high spec and only in 2008

A sensible 15Ks worth.

I am only here to amuse you guys. smile

Of course I loved my TVRs but circumstances change and this fits the bill.

I certainly won’t do any drag days with it but I’m looking forward to track days. I am sure it will chase the pants off TVRs wink

Getting back to prices, I am sure they are down now and will stay down for some time. A good car will always be worth stronger money but on average car prices, even classics I’m sure will be lower. There are more people out there with less security and less available fun money and it is always the luxuries that are given up first.

Of course, that doesn’t bother me as I have just retired. I can do what I damn well like. I have just finished the fourth day with my wife repointing the patio, we have only another five days to go. See how much fun you can have in lockdown if you put your mind to it.

Taking the day off tomorrow so I can go for a nice long run to pick up a pack of bacon and try and bring my brain back from monotony into normal mode!

As for that whippersnapper saying he would prefer my 5.5, yes, I would as well given different circumstances.
There is an old saying that I love reciting to my children, “nothing stays the same“ and that’s why I have the Porsche.

Carry on.

You defo need another Tvr project then. Limiting your excuses to drive outs in a reliable car for bacon doesn’t cut it like having an engine finally balanced on a rickety hoist biggrin
On second thoughts.

But you could do this in no time

And with the two poster you don’t even bend over. Engine and box came out in minutes really. And in, imdid that alone. Easy with body off. Really enjoyable knocking it back up.

There's no denying the merits of a nice Porker...I got this 911 996 a few months ago and it's a fantastic machine.

As is the 500, which goes alongside it very nicely! cool

Nice looking Porker, but which one gives the most "smiles per miles"!

Definitely the TVR.

But you can't really compare them, they're completely different animals.

The TVR is loud and obnoxious, rapid in a straight line and comes with all the theatre a big V8 TVR should, along with plenty of interest and admiring glances.

The Porsche is refined, handles and rides incredibly well, whilst still being relatively quick and sounding good - just in a different kind of way.

It's nice to have the choice! I bought the Porsche to do a European road trip (which is now postponed till next year...!) which I think it will be perfectly suited for (especially with cruise control for any boring bits). I would find the TVR tiresome over distances that long, and probably end up with tinnitus!

They are both completely different IMO.

I hated using my 5.5 in really warm weather, the cabin was unbearably hot even with extra sound and heat proofing fitted below the carpets. No doubt a penalty of 5.5 litres! Otherwise a great car for get-togethers, track and drag days which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was always a talking point as it was unusual as are all TVRs.

For every day use, the Porsche is far superior and strangely enough when I go out for a blast on my own down country lanes, the Porsche puts the biggest smile on my face. The close ratio gearbox makes a welcome change to the wide spaced ratios on the T5 and handling is just fantastic. Don't knock them if you haven't spent some time in one.

Don't get me wrong, TVRs are affordable fun cars. Cars that can be easily spannered no matter what goes wrong with them, just a giant Meccano kit. They are really rare compared to most other marques so you feel somewhat special driving then.

Just to mix it up a bit, my wife's 350z is a much nicer drive compared to our 500 Chimaera which I would sell in a jiffy but wife will not let me! I just feel I have had my time with it, its been no trouble whatsoever in the 7 years we have had it but it irritates the crap out of me on long runs and I don't even particularly like open top driving which is why god invented motorbikes which I still have and enjoy. What would I replace the TVR with? Probably an RG500 or TZ750 before I am to old to swing a leg over!
