I lifted the body off my 98 car earlier in the week to sort out the outriggers.
I know that perishing fuel pipes have been a well reported issue for some time now, but mine looked OK when I checked them out.

Look closely and you can see a black mark on the bellhousing near the copper to rubber jubilee clip connection where the pipe has been chafing.

Just shows that you can't be too careful.

It’s a receipe for disaster having those joints where they are for sure, and a real pita to change.
When I took my engine out I ran new copper lines up into the engine bay so it only leaves shorter more accessible joints.

Have also witnessed an almost thread bare starter motor battery + cable do the same thing here eek bellhousing had worn through the split condate and the red insulation on said cable was nearly transparent it had thinned so much from chafing yikes pays to be vigilant with these cars unless you want yours to become another statistic scratchchin
