My Chimaera Wishbones are away getting blasted and painted at the moment, I’ve been searching for info about when to tighten the pivot bolts....normally it’s when a car is back on its wheels and the suspension settled, but I’ve been unable to find any info on it. There does seem to be conflicting info about the camber, does anyone have a definitive setting??

Can't help with the camber question, I would also be interested in the answer to this.

As for tightening the wishbone bolts if you have poly bushes then I don't think it matters too much as the bush will pivot on the inner sleeve. However if you have the std bushes then I would think they need to be tightened with the car on the ground as the inner sleeve is bonded to the outer.

When I changed mine, I did the bolts up but not very tight. Then I put another trolley jack under the hub on each side in turn and compressed the suspension until the car was just about to lift off the axle stand (i.e. simulated the hub being on the ground) before torqueing up the nuts & bolts.

Don't forget you need to slacken the shock absorber mounting bolts and re-torque them too. I had my car geo'd afterwards, setting the camber is best done with the right test equipment. Sometimes, there is not enough movement available in the upper suspension arms and if you don't have the narrower top ball joints, the arms will foul here.

I have the standard bushes, I think I will lower the car with the bolts nipped up, bounce the suspension to settle it then torque the bolts. I have camber/ castor gauges so it’s just a question of finding out the correct figures.

I don't have a pit or a ramp so I did it my way because if the wheels are fitted, access to the wishbone nuts and bolts is not the easiest! There's a lot of threads about settings. Here's one but there are others:

the answer is quite easy:

if you are using the standard metalastic bushes you MUST put the car on his own feet and let the suspension bounce a few times b4 thightening nuts/bolts.

it you are using poly´s it doenst matter as they always pivot around the sleeve without any load onto the poly
