I presume because no one has mentioned it that I can see, the connector for the original sender will plug straight onto the Range Rover one? Just can't see how as it has one spade connector rather than a plug so must be missing something frown

But the problem is that the original TVR sender is not a single spade connector, it is two small spades that fit into a plug socket connector as per photo below

That is the wrong sensor/connector in your picture. That is the one for the ECU.
The Rover sensor being referred to sits behind and inboard of the ECU sensor. It has a single round pin. the replacement has a spade terminal.

The wire to connect to it is down low in the middle of the inlet valley. It has a spade connector but depending on how the loom has been run it may not be long enough to reach the new sensor so will have to be extended.

That's the ECU sender. The TVR sender is near the distributor with a single spade terminal

You'll have to be quicker than that.

OK thanks, thought the connector for the ECU sender was supposed to connect to the new Rover sender when installed in replacement for the one with the round pin.

Now I understand that there is another TVR sender with a single spade connector that I unplug and plug onto the new rover sender when installed (extending the wire if need be). I had no idea there was a sensor just for the gauge, I thought the ECU sensor also provided the gauge reading as well. Now off to find the dashboard gauge sensor smile

. many thanks to COG for this modification. I fitted mine today and have been out giving it some intensive testing this afternoon with the laptop plug in. I'm running Emerald. The temperature gauge is now very accurate and responds much quicker than before. The only thing I have noticed is with the air conditioning on it shows 10° lower. I can live with that at least now I can be confident what the temperature is with the air conditioning on sitting in traffic. I have a spare if anyone in the Essex area would like one.

Yes please Trev - in Essex myself (Southend) so could probably arrange collection and payment in person if you aren't at the other end of the county smile

Mine was fitted today, vast improvement in the temperature reading. Matches Rover Gauge temps accurately and fans come on just over 90 degrees . The original TVR has understated my temp for the last 13 years smile , never used to get much over 80 degrees on the dash gauge .Thanks

Progressively drill that bigger and bigger until the temp sensor shell is wafer thin and then pick/break that out from the thread with a flat screwdriver , piece of piss dont panic no need to re-tap etc , just take your time and dont over-tighten the new sensor , flush thoroughly jobs a good-un

Not near my Griff 500 PRE-SERP for the next few weeks, but does anyone know if a pre-serp 500 has the same fitting, sender, caerbont gauge, & temp sender location for the gauge? If so, I'll order the better sender! Would seem like a great preemptive replacement!

The 'Carbonet' gauge type is pictured in the thread. If you have that style of gauge, then the sender is relevant. If you don't have that style of gauge then the sender is irrelevant. The pre-serps I have seen don't have the 'Carbonet' gauges.

Novice view

Brillant fitted mine today took 15mins using long sockets on wobble drive 12mm and 13mm but started it by “hand” ( didn’t move anything just got long fingers )

I had previously done the resistor mod and I’ve never seen my gauge reach 90 degrees (proving the resistor mod is useless) hit 90 ish fans cut in and it went down 85-88 ish on gauge

So I have a fully working temp gauge !!!

Many thanks to GOG and Craig R who went half’s and posted me the temp sender !!!
