You pay a 10% premium if you pay for only 6 months VED. Do it for 12 months if possible.

Or sign up to pay it by direct debit, where there is a 5% premium. You only make a small monthly payment that way.

You can declare a car SORN online as late at 11:57 pm on the 31st (I nearly forgot in July!). The refund usually arrives by cheque within 5 days, I do it regularly. If you select d/d, it gets cancelled, but I would check it actually does myself. rolleyes

When we pay for insurance they can start it at any date and time so why do we have to tax it at the start of the month when that time has gone?

If you buy a vehicle in most cases the seller will have paid for that month .

DVLA will be in receipt of two months road tax in one month .

That would be illegal for anyone else .
That's embeseling money .
