If you want to gain the maximum advance possible you have to file the stops on the back of the distributor bob wights. Basically you have to pull the distributor apart completely apart so you are just left with the central shaft and bob weight assembly. The springs must be removed. You then clamp the gear at the bottom and fit a protractor to the central shaft. If you then twist the central shaft by hand and bob weights will move out against their stops, and you need to measure how many degrees the shaft rotates by. This will be half the number of crank degrees you need. You then need to use something like a dremmel with a grinding stone to remove material from the back of the bob weights where they hit they stops- you need to do both weights an equal amount until you get what you want. ie- if you have 10 degrees static, and want to reach 30' at peak, you need 20' at the crank or 10' at the distributor. you dont need to remove much to add a couple of degrees.
