Got nothing much planned in April, sounds good to me.

Difficult decision but if I had the space and could afford to keep it in the garage I probably would.
I suppose you have to factor in the Tax and Insurance costs doing this though.
He could SORN it and only tax it for April to September (like 85% of all TVR owners).
Ditto with insurance, unless he perceives a TVR fire hazard.
Locked in the garage it should be safe from other risks.
You don't even have to 'Tax' a vehicle for a full six months now that it's so easy to SORN and unSORN (ie re'Tax') online. Pay monthly on DD and chop out/in at month end/start when you want. With the added bonus of feeling smug that you're payd (pay as you drive wink ), not letting them have it all upfront.
You only pay a 5% premium for this flexibility, that's against a 10% surcharge if you buy 6 months upfront.
Ideal for a 'summer' car or motorbike, I'm only surprised more drivers don't do this, all us bikers do.

eg Chimp/ Cerb:
Annual £265.00
6 months £145.75 equiv to £291.50 pa (+10%)
Monthly DD £23.19 equiv to £278.28 pa (+5%)

Agreed....great way forward.

Car tax is a real pain when you get a couple of cars though. I have a bank account just for car tax! Most get SORN with 2, 3 sometimes 4 taxed some months on a rotational basis.

And me, should have the car back by then.

Last year I decided I would visit all the tracks I have never been on, so Oulton Park, Silverstone, Croft, possibly Knock Hill, Brands (well, I did the GP circuit in about 1993 in a borrowed Caterham, and Peter will remember when we tried to do the Michael Mouse circuit at Brands in December....with little success) and the Welsh tracks. And I would happily do Castle Combe again if someone would handcuff and gag the irritating little prat whose one aim in life is to spoil all the fun by restricting it to 12 cars on track at a time.

And I did......? Cadwell Park again and Snetterton again.

But if you guys all decide that Snetterton is the one, and we can't get onto anything at Hethel (what a great double header weekend that would be, Hethel and Snetterton), then I have little doubt I will rock up as usual and absolutely love your company.

I begrudge even giving them an extra 5% if I can. frown

I buy a whole 12 months VED in one go and then declare it SORN at the end of a month. The thing I find bizarre is that this causes admin cost to the DVLA because they have to post me a cheque with the unused VED amount on it. But to pay by D/D and cancel it (which is an electronic action) cost the buyer an extra 5% ! There should be no extra charge to pay by d/d, a lot of owners probably wouldn't then cancel it and their revenue might actually go up.

Are you Scottish and retired? wink So you get your refund cheque, have to then find a bank, park, queue in line to pay it back in...
My time's too valuable, 5% = convenience charge.

I am doing my first (ever) track day in March at Knockhill, you (and anyone else), would be welcome to join.

I am sure it will end up costing me money though, seeing your car disappear off in my fairly standard 450!

I take it you've not seen machines in branches where you deposit cheques yourself. Admittedly there would be a cost to pay in a cheque if I made a special trip, but it's not that difficult to do it at the same time I'm in the local town. It can wait. It's sometimes an excuse to use my bike. smile

Do you have everything delivered. Your time's too valuable, really??

Some banks now let you pay cheques in via the phone app.

I have a Halifax account for exactly this purpose...cheque received from DVLA, open Halifax app, take photo of the cheque...done!

That's amazing and would save a lot of time. I don't suppose Barclays do it, I must enquire.

Wow Peter, how are you?

Came across this thread by pure chance. If only I had the money. I’d bite your hand off for that machine!

Im moving from TVRs, had 7 and thats enough. Spent £4k on my Griff last March and only put 300 miles on it since.
Would love a Merc amg gt, but it wouldn't fit in my garage. So I'm looking at the Jag f type 5ltr, hoping it will fit in the garage.
