I am having trouble with the door mirrors.

98 Chimaera with the aluminium control panel in the door.

The problem is that when I switch on the ignition the mirrors are silent, as normal. If I click on Left or Right selector button that mirrors motor then starts whirring away.

The left/right/up/down buttons have some effect but it seems the mirror goes to a down/left limit and stays there.

It continues to make the whirring noise whilst I operate the left/right/up/down buttons until I stop it by switching off the ignition.

I have stripped the switch down and cleaned every thing so its not a stuck switch, (still has the problem with just the bare switch circuit board connected).

Is it a 'known problem' ?

What should I be doing now to fix it ?

The insulation on the wires tends to break over the years. Especially where they pass through from door to car. Mine can move randomly with the ignition too.

I think those also have a mirror control ECU.
TVR Parts offer a repair service so they may be able to advise if there are any common failure modes.

Good. That’s one thing ruled out. Just got to get around to fixing mine!
