Surely something that mounts on the boot lid is the way to go. Something like this that came from an XJS convertible back in the day? The listing has nothing to do with me. It's just the idea that came to mind and I found one for sale in the usual place.

I've seen that one mounted to the boot lid just under the rear window. IMO it looks 'after market'. I was looking for something that would appear OEM to a passer-by

This belongs to a mate of mine (not on here) previously a PH'er's car biggrin do you mean something like this?
I like that, much simpler than the solution I had in mind. I need a challenge though, perhaps a switch that automatically disables the lamp when the roof is down
Mercury tilt switch that switched a relay in the side are of the targa

It was OEM on a Jaguar XJS! A Chim has rear lights from a Fiesta. Is that what you call OEM?! Why wouldn't TVR have fitted an XJS boot mounted high level rear brake light to a Chim boot?

I take your point, having seen one of these on a Chim however, I would not want it

Here it is on a Griff, looks tacky to me

I was thinking of getting this MX5 unit fitted to the boot lid (which is open hence the gap)

Seal the MX5 one well, ours got condensation in and started to turn green.

For those who have protected their heads in the event of a rollover mishap, you can easily get an 8 inch long LED strip from Ebay and attach it to the centre of your roll hoop, then just wire it in. Mine shines through the top of the back window.

mk1 Audi TT convertible third brake light fitted on the boot lid. Narrower but longer unit than the MX-5 items.

I remember seeing this being discussed on here before. Found this from 2010-ish:

Excuse the crap photo, it's a very big crop of the high level brake light on my Dad's Chimaera. It used to be on Gaffer's Dad's (TVR Production Manager) Chimaera before a generous punter whose car was back at the factory for a service borrowed it and wrote it off. Gaffer's Dad offered it to me through Gaffer once Dad got the Chimaera and then had it sprayed the right colour at the factory for us. . . RIP, a debt of 2 crates of NBA I can never pay back . . .

Originally supplied to David to test at the factory from the Dutch importers, NiMag (or something similar) . . . It's a Jag item and fit's superbly, looking factory fit, the curves match those of the Chimaera and I considered putting one on mine as it's quite low and just looks right.

Loving those rear lights. Are the Hella? Also where are your reflectors?

I have a plan for some Chimaera rear lights but need to consider reflectors and reverse/fog.

I'm also getting a high level brake light soon via the hard top conversion.

They are from Car Builder Solutions, they have a good selection, fitted by Ian at Sportmotive.
I looked a Hella lights but I think there are too big, mine are 95mm dia.
Outer rings are stop and tail, upper inner lights are indicators, lower inner lights are fog and reverse.
I don't have a picture to show the reflectors they are oblong under the rear valance you can just see the top of one in the picture,
if you type the following into your browser TVRs At Poole Quay 2015 - Start ups & Revs [14-8-15]
you can see them on a youtube video at ! min 59sec in.

Many of the TVRs imported into New Zealand new were required to have a high stop light fitted. These Hella units were boot mounted and painted to match body colour. I think these were discontinued now.

Even after I fitted some bright LED stop lights, some dopey woman still hit me when I was stationary at some lights.
Without damage, thankfully.

I’m tempted by the early MX-5 boot mounted 3rd light.
