Hello all,
I have recently bought a Chimaera 400 and have been trying to find someone to insure the car for 3 months until I get the 2 years no claims bonus on my existing car.

I am female, 32 years old, no accidents and only one speeding offence (SP30) from last year. The Car is garaged and I live in Cambridge. When my main car is up for renewal I will transfer the NCB to the TVR but so far no luck with short term cover as not many companies do it. CIS can insure by the month but as I'm a new customer with no track record they won't insure me.

Direct Line will insure me with only 1 years no claims and will adjust the premium in January when I have 2 years no claims next January (10% off) but they are quoting me £1400!

Please can anyone help me find someone to cover the car for the 3 months and then give me a reasonable quote for the following year? I hear that I should go to a specialist high performance insurer, has anyone got any advice on where to find one?

Thanks,
Stephanie

Insurance through Sunninghill Insurance 01276 474 844, very competitive + under written by Norwich Union + full RAC cover. I hope they can help, they were the most competitive for me, as my other car was a Rover 800 which was not classed as a performance car (I wonder why?)
Good luck.

Also try A Mannings in Henley on Thames.

If you search this very forum for 'Mannings' pick any of the results as they are all bound to contain the contact details.

Congrats on your purchase.

I found Sunninghill vastly cheaper than anyone else including Mannings. For those with 2 cars, they also offer free mirroring of your No Claims Bonus onto the second car - as far as I know they are the only people who do that. Doesn't even matter if the 1st car is insured with another company. And on top of that they give free RAC cover as well!

Manning's insure my '92 Griffith 400 for a shade over £400 as I remember (Surrey, 28yo SP30 in'98) unlimited mileage.

Good luck.

Same experience for me... and they matched my existing NCB on the other car. I spoke to a guy there called Andy Mackintosh who's very helpful.

If you can get a quote for under £1000/year you'll be doing very well.

Try playing with options like limited mileage, higher excess ( www.tvrbodyshop.com were offering to pay half of excess if you took business to them so worth checking out ). I don't know whether they would also be willing to take off the track day cover (unless that something you really want) and RAC cover, worth a try.

AA were pretty cheap (although not as cheap as Sunninghill by far) and do monthly premium payments so in theory you could cancel. Explain to Sunninghill what you were thinking and they'll probably come up with a deal.

Mannings were the first company that I tried- but they wouldn't insure me as I hadn't owned a hi-perf car before. I asked them to recommend someone and they said Pearts. Same day, I requested insurance info from the TVR owners website. Next day they sent me a list of companies. First on list was Mannings- second was Pearts! Previous car was insured by Zenith and they quoted £2'500 for the Chim. Pearts have insured it for not much over £600 (£400 XS though). They can be reached on 01539 730666. Good Luck.
(Jus realized ther'es a Pearts ad on this post. Impartial- honest)

Mannings won't insure unless you've had a high perf. car for 12 months. Sunninghill best I could find - try searching threads for insurance. Some swear Tesco have given great quotes and there are quite a few other threads with other suggestions.

Hi,
I tried loads of insurers - went through all the ones in Sprint mag and then tried a load of internet sites and specialist high-performance car insurers and as a last resort tried the ones in the phone book....Tesco came in with the best price.
750 GBP for 1997 4.5Chim , 29yrs old FNCD but 1200excess (ouch!)

Tesco's were best for me bit silly really as they use direct line but if you go straight to direct line its more money . Its a funny old world!!

Thanks guys,
Mannings have quoted just over £800. Not bad for a 31 year old with less than 2 years NCB!!

Pah, I can beat that.

I'm 34, full NCB, clean license, High Wycombe, garaged, always driven fast RWD cars (this one for 4.5 years now) ... my premium for the Chimaera is £700ish.

Think I'll be talking with Mannings at renewal time ... I live in HP15, not actually High Wycombe itself too.

Last months research on a '98 450 5 years NCB ...

Admiral @£600xs £908 (and I have 2 other cars with them !)
Sunninghill @£500xs £900 (30% increase on last year)
Privilege @£500xs £885
Privilege @£750xs £780
Mannings @£500xs £667
Mannings @£750xs £586

.. got board, went with Mannings as I'm not bothered about RAC and Track days.

I was with elephant.co.uk last year, and renewal came through this week at £1879!! I've just spoken to Anthony at Mannings (01491 578759) and they've quoted £657.15...

I'd call that a no-brainer...

WOO-HOO!

95M Chim 400
25yrs old
owned the car for 12 months
5yrs NCD

Oh yeah, 3points from an SP30 last June. Grrr.
