why should you expect consistency from these leaches? - if anything they are one down the scale from lawyers ( don't make/produce anything but paperwork, live off the backs of others etc. ) rant etc.

egg wouldn't cover my coupe when it went for an MOT, were quite happy to take my money for temporary insurance, but 'sorry, no, sir wouldn't be covered if he had an accident because the car is unroadworthy ' ( despite FSH etc. )
scumbags the lot of 'em.

alright i'm done now

I went with Peart to insure my Chim 500, but have since had trouble with them, and really couldn't recommend now.

They quoted me £898 for this year 10 years+ NCD, no points, but a 21 day ban for an SP30, unlimted mileage and only a £350xs. This was a great quote.

However, I got a phone call saying they had mis-quoted me and the renewal premium would be some £500 more. The reason for the mis-quote was a mistake on their part.

When I asked what the mistake was, all I got was "Sorry, we couldn't possibly track it down."

So the obvious question was, "How do you know you've made a mistake, if you don't know what the mistake is?"

The reply, "We just do Sir...!"

Not only that, but had 2 days of hell trying to get them to cough up for a windshield when mine needed replacing.

Mannings have quoted just over £800. Not bad for a 31 year old with less than 2 years NCB!!

That's odd - in your first message, you were 32! Anyway, not a bad quote. I also have a 4.0 ltr Chim and our personal circs are about the same (except of course I'm a bloke!) From April this year, my premium was about £800. Just made a claim for a cracked w/screen of £500 so certainly got my moneys worth.

Have you tried Mark Abbott at Cheam Brokers? Admin with themm is appalling but they can get good quotes from Norwich Union. Tell them I sent you and Mark will probably add another 10%

BR

PS Actually one slight difference is that I have 11 points for various offences!!!!

PPS Also left you an off-line e-mail. Hope you get it.

What was the question?!

The £657.15 I believe is a TVR Car Club (so make sure you mention it!) special price... I got exactly the same!!! That's unlimited mileage, £500 XS, includes trackday but no breakdown or NCB protection.

Otherwise, the problem with insurance is that apart from postcode, age, psychotic episodes, football team etc factored in, when you get the quote will have as much bearing on your premium. Premiums have jumped around a lot in the past 12 months so it may just be the case that it's luck of the draw as to when you got your quote.

Ahaa major and Bouffy.. I have the answer... I currently have a £300 excess on the policy which the can not change mid-term (i'm on a change note on the S policy). If if increase the excess to £550 at renewal the policy price plummets to £509

Cheers.

My insurance has just ran out, I was with Direct Line , who wanted to charge me 700 odd quid, but after reading your banter here, I decided to give Mannings a try and they have quoted me £615 with an excess of £300 opposed to £375 with DD, so thanks you lot, you've saved me a 1er!

Just so we're comparing apples with apples I presume the prices that everyone is quoting are Basic Premium with x% no claim discount. So they don't include no claim discount protection and motor legal protection.

It makes you wonder what some companies do. Just been on the phone to an insurance company, who shall remain nameless but are named after a city only 18 miles from Blackpool!

We were asked whether our TVR was imported?... and then entered in to a discussion about whether 'moonraker black' was one of TVR's standard paint colours.... yes! one of 16.4 million standard colours!!

This from a company who claims to be a specialist in classic and performance cars...

I've just been ringing around for insurance quotes and found Sunninghill the cheapest at £599 with a £500 excess. Mannings gave me a quote even though I have only had the car for about 3mths but it was £997, they said it would have been £550 if i'd been driving the car for at least 12mths.
Direct Line and Norwich Union Direct were next closest at £837 and £842 respectively.
Worst quote, masterquote from esure at £1799
This is based on 34 yr old main driver, wife 29, no claims or convictions in the last 5yrs, max no claims.
Hope this helps,

Thats nothing, I just phoned Nationwide for a quote because they were claiming to beat any quote. When she asked what the Make and Model of the car was I said 'its a TVR Chimaera'.

To which she replied 'and who makes that?', Oh dear!

I felt like putting the phone down there and then but the conversation was short lived anyway. They don't insure people under 30 on that model (probably any other TVR as well)

Matt,

Sorry i didn't get back to you - have been on a particularly tedious business trip...

You appear to have established the reasons behind our differing Manning quotes...but if you're still interested, my Chim is safely locked up each night in a garage, hidden away from a main road in Bedford. Although I'm moving to Clapham - not sure how this will affect it...hmmm...

Also - anyone on here driving on the A14 yesterday morning at around 9ish nr Newmarket? A light green Chim 400. Nice.

BB,

I'm moving to Clapham in sarf london, not the one nr bedford...but not sure which one would affect my premium the most!

I'm pretty sure I've seen the ballistic-banana-mobile in bedford...was once parked in goldington road i think...
