Does anyone know a manufacturer who supplies poly bushes for the whole car. About to do a bit of a refurb and thought would change the old rubber bushes for better ones.

Just had my Griff in for a service at Thames Valley Racetech and am about to bite the bullet and get the suspension rebushed all round. Their advice was / is that the poly bushes are too soft and that the originals are best supplemented by what they call a "Thrust Washer" at either side of the bush to prolong it's life.

Any help?

Si

Had a look on Superflex, but there doesn't seem to be any Griffith 5.0L listed. Or am I not looking in the right place??

You've a choice for Modern Chimaera & Griffith or Classic Late Griffith 400 (is the suspension really that much different for a 500?!)

Griffith Bushes

Failing that e-mail or phone them and they'll probably be able to tell you.

Bit concerned here Chaps as you are pursuing the Superflex route & I have been advised not to by TVRacetech - Am I being sold a dummy?? plus, what about this 'Thrust washer' lark? Any advice?

Cheers

I can't comment on the Super/Power flex stuff.

However, Steve (TVRacetech) did the new bushes and thrust washers on my Griff about 18 months ago and I am very happy with the results.

Steve does have alot of experience in this area so I followed his advice. I have also not heard anything that would suggest this is a bad choice, only different to what other people choose to do.

Good luck,
Ian

According to Demon Tweeks, Powerflex don't do bushes for "less popular" cars (!). FWIW.

Mind you, this was about 6 weeks ago - though I doubt things will have changed much since then.

my local specialists seem to know what they are doing, so obviously they have the Powerflex part numbers, after years of continual research!!. If they tell me what they are I will post them on here.

Fair enough! Demon Tweeks seem to cater mostly for the Novaboy types, so whenever I ask them for anything for the Griff I tend to get blank looks and "have you tried a TVR main dealer".

Time for a new supplier, methinks. They were good for the rally cars, though.

Edited to say: There's a thought. If anyone knows of a good supplier of miscellaneous Griff bits, please let me know - you can mail me via my profile so as not to take over the thread... Cheers!

the problem with the standard bushes can be that they allow longitudinal movement as they wear. That is to say the rubber allows the suspension to move up tight against the front of the chassis fixings rather than sitting in the middle. Hence the Castor changes and the car drives worse.

By fixing a fibre thrust washer to the front and rear of the bush it keeps everything central and stops it moving about. This was first done on Cerbera's but is a common upgrade to other TVRs from people in the know.
