OK.. so the guy has no motor insurance.. but if he has a home, must have personal liability insurance as a part of his household stuff. Find out the details of this and put a claim in against that insurance instead.. afterall you are a Third party who has suffered a loss, I seriously reckon that would be a goer..
Cheers
Matt.

Imelda said: Don't quote me on this, but I think insurance companies run a system wherby any losses incurred as a result of a no-fault accident involving an uninsured driver are paid out of a central fund, thus leaving your NCB unaffected.

I could be wrong on this, but here's hoping.......

This is true, but having been through the process myself, they also like all insurers have a duty to their shareholders not no pay unless they absolutely have to. The margin is that the accident has to be deemed by an assessor to be less than 1% the fault of the claimant, so I'd guess they'll just say you should have closed the door...

...they determined that I was to blame by 3% for an accident in which my car was written off by being hit by two stolen cars racing down a narrow resdential street at 70mph despite the fact that I could not have seen them as they were within 60ft when they came into my view. I was blamed for not moving out of their way more. My insurers were so embarrased by the result they paid anyway and ensured it did not affect my insurance record...

If he says he's gona pay then you can tell your insurance that your only informing them for there records and not making a claim subject to him paying for repairs.
If at a later date he still hasnt payed, because you've informed your insurance your can still make a claim.I think you get 2 months or something as long as you tell them
so you shouldnt lose your ncb! as long as he pays!!!!

Well I’ll try out sort this out ASAP but its still going to be 2 months till I get the car back as they have to get the door from TVR, at least I still have the S!

Looks like I’ll be paying the extra while it’s in and get the rest of the body work sorted out, twin headlights conversion is tempting too!

Good idea. It can also work the other way. I bumped into a car on the motorway and did a few hundred pounds worth of damage. I told the insurers who organised the repair with the third party and then reimbursed the insurance company to reclaim my NCB. It meant that neither of us got ripped off and I didn't loose my NCB.

Paul, this is awful man. I would have been seriously hacked off, as I'm sure you were.

They guy can't get away it though, neighbour or not.

Is he up for an amiable chat? Can't believe the Feds weren't interested though – that's just plain daft. Tell 'em you have seen him in the garden with what appears to be a sawn off shotgun and you'll have the whole bloody force there in 60 seconds.

Then mention you were mistaken, it must have been the letter telling him to renew his insurance which he has yet to complete!

Paul, really gutted for you mate. I know how much you were looking forward to getting the Griff.

Hopefully this incident will be all the bad luck you'll ever get rollled into one. When its over, I'll be looking forward to some more kick a$$ convoys like the one you know I'm thinking of.

Will be good to see Griff soon mate. Let me know when you get her back.

Regards

Ged

Afraid I can’t see them being much quicker as it looks like a 4-6 week wait to get the door from TVR, must admit I’m feeling a little down about the car, even considered selling it when it comes back but I know that when I see it I won’t want to.

Having seen the car and helped Paul along with this over the last few days I can say that Paul did have a great looking Griffith.

In 2 months time he will have an even better looking Griffith which will be even more sorted.

I was nearly as gutted as Paul when he phoned me that evening. Give him his due though...he will be getting it sorted out.

All the best Paul, and I'll see you tonight.

Cheers

Mark

Awful news, Paul.
Back in June, Joolz recommended a guy called Brendan as a source of second hand body parts. I believe he also has his own moulds. This might enable you to bypass the wait for a new door. Phone number 07815 101096.
I have a feeling that Pete Humphries mentioned Tower View have some moulds, so might be worth ringing them, or someone like Peninsular. If they don't have them, they may know someone who does.
See you tonight?

Paul.

Been offered that for free but it won't save my no claims discount, hopefully he's going to pay up without to much fuss!

Must be some solid buns round your way

Found the original post from Joolz:-

here's some sound advice for you .. get in touch with brendan on
07815101096 (uk mobile number so don't know what code before it you'll need)
.. he's a guy who rebuilds crash damaged TVRs. he has virtually every mould
for current TVRs front and rear so may be able to do a shell or sell you
parts to repair your own. he's a top bloke and very fair on price - also has
lots of secondhand parts / lights / suspension etc etc. don't buy any
fibreglass parts from the factory .. waaaay too expensive.
you should be able to repair all your body for under 2k gbpounds.
cheerz. Joolz

Cheers,
Paul.
PS Mark (Johno), will you have the new car with you tonight?

Problem is it’s in Webb’s Auto Specialist (TVRBODYSHOP.CO.UK) so I presume they will only use their supplier, who I believe is the factory!

I'm sure they would consider using a another source as long as quality was OK, or even an undamaged second hand door, if it means shaving weeks off the turnaround time. I used this tactic years ago on a Sunbeam Alpine (Ok, OK, this was before I discovered TVRs) and avoided a write-off scenario. Why don't you suggest it to them, you have nothing to lose?

Cheers,
Paul.
