You can get recon ones from Halfords. TVR want about £220 for a recon one If I remember rightly.

Make sure they are the same current though. Cheaper ones are often lower rated.

Now don't take this as gospel 'cos I's a bit squiffy: but doesn't it (the alt) take an excitation feed thru' the dash warning lights?
ie: field excitation, without which your alt will not produce the goods.
Sure a reputable auto elec place can tell wots goin' on. Rocket science not an option.
HIC!

The alternator is a Magneti Marelli A127-65 Problem is they don't seem to make it anymore and I need to find the model number that has replaced it? Help. Who can I call?

Yes (via the no-charge warning light), but it'll self-energise anyway if you rev it enough - about 3000 rpm should be sufficient.

Cheers,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

Hi, I just read about the problems you had with the ignition light staying on.

I just experienced exactly the same problem. The battery didn't recharge. At first I was not sure whether the alternator had broken down, but when my car suddenly stopped when I was on my way to the dealer (driving 120 km/h), I had to fix it.

It was the fuse, which is fitted under the car, and almost impossible to reach (as most vital parts of the TVR). I suggest you first check this!

Good luck

Sorry I’m just catching up on old posts.

I had the Griff 500 Magneti Marelli alternator replaced two years ago it is now a Lucas LRB283 50/99 if that’s any help and she’s been fine ever since.

Cheers,

Simon.

Cheers for the reply. I changed the alternator after getting a recon one from penninsula (great service) and all is fine now.
