Hello,

After pretty much torrential rain all day I got into the Chimp and low and behold no fuel pump merrily whirring away in my left ear.

Further investigation led me to to a small puddle in the passenger footwell, well away from the sparky bits but still very damp.

I guess the fault could lie in either the alarm, relay or the pump. Can anyone tell me if the fuel pump relay is controlled by the warm, toasty and hoefully dry alarm under the dash (guess it is but you never know with these things!)

I know there are two small can style relays in the footwell, one is the fuel pump, what is the other? Can they be easily identified (wire colours or other identifying features?) I can then start probing with a multimeter to diagnose the fault. I have read before that the relay is a bit elusive and an alternative can be used, anyone gotta part no?

Hopefully it is something electrical rather than the actual pump. Any ideas people!

Thanks for any help

Gav

Does the inertia switch stop the fuel pump if activated? I don't know if it does or not - (someone will in a sec I am sure!) but it's under the dash on the passenger side and might play up if wet?

My 95 chimaera has got the metal 30a bosch type relays,
the relay with the thicker wires going to it is the fuel pump relay and the other i don't know, you can switch the 2 relays around to test if one is not working as for the part no it is written on the relay, the fuel pump relay should click when turning the ignition on. You could also check the connections to the fuel pump itself behind the passenger rear wheel as these connectors can corrode and get damaged by water or debris.

The inertia switch kills the pump dead, try the reset button to see if it has popped up.

Good luck,

Eventually managed to fix the problem.

Checked both relays on an old battery, one responded with a nice 'click' the other a dull thud. Opened it up and it was literally full-o-crap (mud moisture etc). Must've been like this for ages. The other relay btw is the ECU power supply.

Replaced both just to make sure (£8.00inc VAT from the local motorserv)

Still no joy with the fuel pump after replacing the relays. With the loom on the passenger seat (only time I have been glad that the loom is so long)I could hear a buzzing from one of the fuses, a small amount of water in the fuse socket caused the fuse to arc.

Dried out the socket and hey presto working fuel pump.

Thanks for all of the help. Much appreciated.
