My Chim has a standard exhaust at the moment and the sound is OK. I like that lazy rumble; however, every now and again I would like it to be a little louder (like my aston martin vantage S that has a valved exhaust). Has anyone ever tried exhaust cut outs with these cars? That way when the missis is in the car I can have the chim on normal mode and I can change it when it's just me.

Just a thought.

Hi, I was just thinking about this subject. Noise that is. I agree standard system great for cruising around, plus any distance travel. Having watched loads of cars depart and arrive at the Burghley horse power event, to me the loudest cars do not sound the best. Too open an exhaust can sound like farting into Wookey hole. Take the new Fiat Arbath as an example, exhaust sounds too big.

Standard exhaust much more sophisticated.

Maybe occasional burst of volume a good idea! But mostly standard.

There isn't much room to make modifications to the exhaust system for valving. That's going to be your biggest issue, because to retain the current noise level you'll need a silencer box at least as big as what is already there, and then you'll need space for the additional pipework for the valved bypass section and associated control systems. Get underneath one and have a look and you'll see what I mean.

I know there isn't much room there, but I will have a look and measure things up.

The Act cherry bomb exhaust is one of the best sounding options without going too loud.

Seconded. To me the nicest sound. Mellow for the most part with a bark when you get going.

Actually I might have to concur, in principle. My second TVR was a 3000ML with a 3.5L Rover V8, SDN418M. I am not sure if it still survives. It had squashed cherry bombs, to try (in vain) to get some ground clearance. I was younger then, but, it did sound amazing.

Yes Sheel’s car had cherry bombs and that’s exactly how I’d describe it.
Pretty full on when pressing on but as I burbled towards my mates place with houses either side it was not loud at all really. Not obnoxious
