Fuel Filter hatch
Discussion
I can't remember who posted about this but thanks. I should have done this years ago.
Buy a 5" boat hatch from eBay. £8. Cut the same size hole in your rear shelf and gain instant easy access to that fuel filter.
It makes changing it a doddle. The date stamp on the filter was 1998. Looks like it was changed once in the history of the car despite having a good early service history. I couldn't resist having a look inside. This is what 24 years of fuel going through a paper filter looks like.
Mucky!!

It's just about big enough to undo the main mounting bolt from the chassis and you can drag the whole filter assembly into the car to undo the clamps and remove the hoses. The only drawback is you have to have a container handy to catch the fuel but if you place a tray underneath the hole you can drain straight into that rather than flooding the rear shelf with fuel.
