I think I ran out of fuel the other day, but having never done this before, I just wanted to check that this probably was the case and nothing more sinister is wrong.
I was cruising at about 40mph in 4th, when the engine just died on me. After an initial panic looking for the hazards, I tried to start her up ..... no problem and I drove another 5 miles or so to the nearest petrol station. I put in 47 litres (before spilling fuel down the back of the car - so it should now be full).
2 miles further up the road, the car died on me again - this time I was able to re-start before I ground to a halt! Later that day, I went out for a 'test' drive and had no problem whatsover. Was the second cut-out some kind of air lock left over from running a bit too low the first time? OR, is there more to worry about?

The fuel tank holds 57 litres so if it was to the brim at 47 then chances are you still had some fuel there but supply to the engine was interrupted somehow. May be a dicky fuel pump - but I'd start by checking the relays and connectors for dodgy contacts.

Hope you find a quick solution - driving with the uncertainty of losing power is a real downer on enjoyment.

I've only run of petrol once in a TVR (Griff), when bringing it back from a service, but once it stopped, that was it. I coasted to the nearest layby, got the mobile out and tore a strip off the company that had just serviced it - then they said 'have you run out of fuel sir?' Doh!!

I ran out literally as i arrived at front gate to my drive - as the rest of the drive to my normal parking spot is gravel (wife has garage) I was a bit hacked off I had to push it - not easy.

However, I knew it was on the way out and was hoping, as I have spotted that the fuel pump - somewhere behind your head i think, starts to hiss constantly for about the last 30 miles before you run out. I haven't bothered to carry a spare gallon - just refill at 3/4 empty - altho tricky if you don't find optimax quickly.

The hissing tho I would be interested in what causes it - beginning to create a vacuum???

I have felt a splutter when flooring the loud pedal and the tank is nearly below a quarter

The guy I bought my chim from mentioned the outstanding accuracy of the TVR fuel gauge and encouraged me not to go below a quarter of a tank - demons live in those parts he said, strange things start to happen and odd noises, as if some creature has been wakened from a deep sleep. I now start looking for O/X as soon as the gauge dips the wrong side of half full/empty (and I've started sleeping with the landing light on again )

Had another ride out last night and again no problems, so I'm putting the engine cut-out's down to gremlin's in the bottom 1/4 of the tank!

I discovered the hard way that when my fuel gauge says there's 1/8 tank left - there isn't. My S3 gauge also packed up so I used mileage instead - just reset the trip meter each time you fill up and re-fill when it gets to 200 miles.

3/4 full (indicated) now means garage time! Time to give 400% fuel tax to that nice Mr Brown who will, of course, spend it so wisely....
