Hi to everyone @ Pistonheads, pleased to become a member. Brought a 98 4.0L Chim three weeks ago from Fernhurst. Fast! Test drove my first TVR @ 3:0 o'clock and brought one by four! Is that Fast or what? Still smiling & smiling & smiling.... Thanks for all the tips and pointers, it helps and inspires us new guys. I felt a bit lonely for the first week. Understanding a few more things now. A friend said that TVR's do have a few foibles.. haven’t come across these yet are they hidden inside a body panel somewhere?
Thanks again!

This reminds me of a story (may be an urban myth)... guy bought brand new tvr, few weeks later could smell this nasty smell... lcoated it to a door... dealer removed door coverings to reveal... mouldy sandwich!

Hi- be assured you've made a good choice-
but I'll go along with what Ted said- we're effectively into winter now so a wee bit of thought needs to be applied when making a sudden dash through a roundabout etc. I've only had my Chimaera for 6 wks or so and experienced my first 'fishtail' from her on a wet B road (ok- I was trying to beat the lights)-jus glad a transit wasn't coming the other way! Still...heart in mouth for a second..& another lesson learned.
I use her as an (only) everyday car and, (despite petrol costs!!) it makes commuting a pleasure- even in London!
RE: your friend's foibles- aren't there blips with any marque? I used P'hds effectively as a guide to what I was getting into, prior to purchase. I now realise that, into ownership, I've been actually anticipating problems- couple of things- see my threads- but now think I should chill out and enjoy a bit more and be a tad less paranoid (being Scottish I've got 2 padlocks on the wallet!).
Information on here can be invaluable and I hope it's useful to you.

well done! excellent choice ( yes, i've got one - bit older ).
had it 6 months, no major bother ( touching wood ), much fun to be had particularly when the sun comes out.

this site is very useful indeed. new-owner paranoia can prevent unwarranted damage to the wallet and heart-strings - and then this site puts paid to your worst fears ( you hope ).
keep it serviced and it will be no less reliable than every other car you see on the road. i'm convinced that people only say these things are unreliable because some of them are treated like bikes ( ie only come out in the summer ), and the rest are down to the fact that, yes, they can be a little expensive to fix - but what do you expect from a car twice as quick as any ' normal ' car, with twice the engine?
drive it every day and you should minimise the pain.
good luck.

Great choice! Actually Rover V8 engines are very easy to service so I would advise you to go to a specialist rather than a dealer who will add the date on to your servicing bills--you also have the assurance that the job is not going to be done by a "boy". One more point--diagnostic dealer equipment is set up for the AJP engines ie Tamora,Tuscan and Cerbera not for the V8's--you would have to go to a Range Rover dealer for that--of course basic fault codes can be read but they don't help much.

Winter means a gentle touch on the throttle. I'm getting 24mpg from my 500 at the moment.

I've not measured exactly- but it looks like I'm not getting into the 20s per gallon. She was given a full service the day prior to purchase (maybe up near you- Harpenden). I will take it a bit easier- if not just to reach the magic 24- but the North Circ on a Monday morning is a killer- clutch, brake, clutch, brake- add infinitum.
Your car looks stunning on your member's page incidently. Apparantly only 2% of all vehicles on the road are yellow but it's the most easily visible colour to other drivers. No excuse for someone not seeing you flying up the M1!
