Early Chim Alarm Help Please
Discussion
Hi,
Apologies if the following has already been covered in a different thread.
When arming / disarming my 93 Chim alarm, occasionally the NS indicators latch on & remain on until I arm / disarm the unit a few times (using the key I don’t have remote facility).
Is this a common problem & can it be sorted?
I’ve read that the alarm is a combination of an alarm module (Meta , Gemini etc) with a separate TVR box of bits that arms / disarms the alarm based on operation of the lock. Is this true?
Cheers,
Vroom

No. It is either a Gemini alarm or a Foxguard or a Meta. The Gemini ones are reknowmed for corroded tracks on the PCB boards and causing all sorts of problems. No longer made so unless it is something simple outside the system, new alarm time.

I have a 94 Chimaera (sorry can't call it a Chim or Chimp - it's a car), and it did exactly the same thing. It turned out to be the spring on the relay, which can't be replaced as they don't make that alarm any more. The guy I took it to put an uprated spring in and fixed it.... marvellous. The thing you have to watch, I found, is not noticing the indicator light being on and draining the battery, then you can't open the doors and you spend a while looking at it before the solution hits you.
The fault you describe is almost certainly a faulty relay in the alarm box. Depending on what make of alarm it is, the easiest cheapest solution would be to cut the wire to the N/Side indicator circuit from the alarm box. If you know which make of alarm you have fitted I may be able to help with the wiring side of things. The only down side is that it will only ever flash on the O/Side even when it goes off. The plus side is you can use the old alarm unit for some time to come.
