MikeyT said: I wanted the later front but the pre-facelift rear ie with the backlit no plate.

Also wanted the mirror door openings and later dash.

In truth, I wanted Squirrelz' car

The car I bought in the end had only the backlit plate but what the hell - that's the bit I really wanted

HANDS OFF!!!!

Here you are: Facelift front on an N plate and chrome dials , but still with backlit numberplate. Only thing missing is the wingmirror door opener.

And yes, that is a new front end.

Thats one I've never seen before. Facelift front, but older door openings.

Are you sure it's not had a new nose grafted on? - I've seen 96P's with the older nose.

That's like mine too!
Though during a recent service at Webbs, they said Chimaeras were never produced like that....but there seems to be a lot out there if these posts are anything to go by.

Sorry, I was very ambiguous with my last post. What I meant was, a new front end (i.e. replacement) on that car. Truth be told it's on it's 3rd front end .
None of them by my hand.
But I was happy to buy this car as I wanted a facelift, but facelift 500s were out of my price range. To me, the new front is more sorted and aggresive looking.
Although I have the alloy bezzles around the instruments, it has got the old dash which isn't quite as nice as the new one. However I've got all the alloy switch gear and buttons, which improve it no end.

I didn't realise they changed the backlit plate in 1998 until after I got mine.

I am lucky that I have got the facelift model, but with the backlit number plate.
Must have been a run from about 1997 to mid 1998???

1998 was when the round rear lights and slanted plate came in.

No

And I've just dropped the price and put it on ebay -- I'm hoping that's not a big mistake...

Dependent upon whether it was registered straight away or was kept in a dealer showroom it was Feb/March 1998 that the lights changed to the small circle ones.

Deep joy - mine is April 98 so all the nice bit, and none of the not so tasty bits (those late head light covers are hideous - only work on the longer scooped out Griff front). - Pity it's winter now.....

How do they decide on what parts go on what car? do they fill the factory up with saw dust and make a giant 'lucky dip' ?

Urm..Was yours a Motorshow special do you know our was it supplied through a certain dealer down south originally?

It could have been upgraded? or rear whacked - perish the thought.

I thought I would have a quick look at your profile and it says still saving - that blows that idea.

Mine was registered (TMS) on 1st Jan 98.It has the fiesta lights and backlit plate.
I think mine was a special build, probably Nov/Dec 97.
It had an unusual interior colour, wet sand leather, tan and brown and body colour Storm Grey.

The first owner was a woman in Leicester, who apparently chose the colour combinations.
I bought it from Sue in Milton Keynes, who I think you've mentioned before you knew from you TMS days.

I know exactly the car, full hide, PAS - It was sold new to a lady in Billesdon, Leicestershire. Yes she did specify a one off extra charge interior colour. Strangley her husband drove a Z3?

That is/was a well sorted car and yes Sue brought it about two years/ 18 months ago from me. It has A/C if I remember correctly.

You have me worried now , HPI was clear, only got it 2 months ago. Has all the other bits and pieces door switchs, boot longer boot lid, colour coded bump strip, Cerbra style grill, bigger vents on bonnet etc.
What dealer was it you refer to ? mail me off line if you wish.

Malc

Edited to say I have up dated my profile now.

Day Dreamer, your email isn' t on the profile, email me if you want some more info. I am sure that there won't be a problem and your lucky to get a very first model etc, but it doesn't matter in any way if the rear lights have been updated etc - is your plate angled and lit from above?
