SUPRAMAN said: Why do Griff owners always feel the need justify that their cars are better than Chimaera's?

If they are a better looking car,(which is why most people choose between the two) why did the Chim outsell them by 4 to 1?

1. We don't have to. We just know
2. The reason was mainly the availability of smaller engined versions which were deemed to be less of a handful than either the Griff 500 or Chimaera 500 and the fact that the boot is bigger. The Chimaera is slightly softer in the suspension generally (don't believe the claims that the Chimari and Griffi have the save suspension and chassis and therefore handle the same as they don't after driving too many to remember) which again appealed to new entries to the marque although some claim that this means the golf clubs are likley to do less damage inside the boot.... Allegedly.

At the end of the day the Griff is a Griff and a Chimaera is a Chimaera. End of story.

I can find Chimaera in the OED = fire breathing female monster with a lions head goats body and serpents tail--yes female alright in a sort of Mrs Thatcher sense--but would you want to date one? I can't find Griffith--the nearest is Griffin= another monster of unspecified sex with head and wings of an eagle and body of a lion. Perhaps they should get together--then again of course the Griff could be named after that cute little dog the Griffon--I expect the latter is correct--it is a ladies dog

Griffith is named after Jack Griffith who took a TVR Grantura with basically VW front suspension and stuffed a 4.7 litre V8 engine in it and created a car in the mid 1960s that was capable of 165+ mph and sub 5 seconds 0-60. Not bad for a mid 1960s production car.

Chimaera is a mythical creature that played a lot of golf apparently. Griffith is named after a real he-man who thought the world needed big big v8 powered TVRs. Who would you rather have a car named after?

I rest my case.

Well the 390SE and the 450SEAC isn't. Neither is the T350C so that blows that theory. The Grantura was a made up name and the Vixen is a fox. The 1800S is also not mythological either.

The current naming is simply down to PW. It's his train set and he can call them what ever he likes!

Cerbera was named after Cerberus. The evil looking two headed dog that guarded Hades. Wicked!!

As I said earlier, Chimeara was named Crimpera the hairdresser of the Greek Lady Gods!!!

Just looked up Griffith in the Complete Oxford English Dictionary---old Irish word describes "a wild pig of squat build with bulging eyes" etc also " having a very agressive disposition emitting a fierce roar when provoked and capable of considerable speed over short distances" There you are then let that be the end of it--a wild boar which will charge you if provoked (or does that describe a dealer)
