I have found a lovely looking chim 5.0 for sale , right colour, right leather, right miles, good price before haggling, but it has the zertec triple headlight conversion, now some might love it and , in the end its all personal preference, but i prefer the original look,..

so... how difficult/expensive would it be to have it retro re- unconverted so to speak??

assume it is possible if you can go one way surely you can go back..... has anyone had this done?

thoughts anyone, ??

anyone fancy a headlight swap if i buy it??

I would not have thought it would be too easy to convert back, not 100% sure but don't they chop off the glass fibre where the headlights mount on to, graft on new bits to do it and paint the front? I think the Griff is reversible though.

IIRC the new lights are too big for the current pods so they cut in to make the fit. So the original shape is lost.

I would guess you would have to chop off the entire modified front at the headlights and graft on a complete new front with grille etc, and then repaint.

Plus the indicators will have to be relocated back to there original position.

New fronts are about 1500 quid I think.

You must be psychic. I was talking to Joolz tonight about headlamp conversion. I love them! (various sexual metaphors were used in our conversation but I'll skim over that for the purposes of this posting)

Talk to Joolz if you want to think about whether a swap is feasible. He's my agent!!

You may get a good deal if you find some one here who wants a conversion done to their 5.0, you can swap cars then

Don't know how much quarters for the front are, I'd guess at ~£300 (if you can get them) or £1500 for a new front end, then you've got another few hundred to bond it on plus more to paint it. Also when you come to sell it, it will be obvious that work has been carried out, putting doubt on the cars history etc

Either keep the car with the new lights, or buy a different one would be my advise

anything's possible with a fibreglass car, but the wing is cut to get the lights to fit in, so you'd have to cut roughly the same shape out of both cars and literally swap them over, bond and refil the resulting edges and paint the fronts of both cars .. reckon on teens of hundreds as has been suggested above. it's be easier to find another car .. there's plenty out there - but having said that it IS possible to convert back if you really were set on this particular car.

good point about having to explain the double - fit lights .. TVR being a close community and all .. someone is bound to know that car had a conversion and then back again ...

Good colours, if it is a nice car why not buy it - I bet the lights will grow on you!

The view through the windscreen is the same

Have you seen it in the flesh, I've had quite a few people say that mine looks better than they thought it would after seeing the pictures (see profile (current cars))

But as you say, personal preference, there's a few out there, but if the car is so good in all other areas, I wouldn't let the lights put me off

bellerophon,

Barker motors have a 5.0 chim for sale at a very good price. It has few miles and at that price (after haggling) you could get it the colour you want.

I bought my chim from Barkers about 5 months ago and he does not know a lot about them, but knows a good one when he sees it.

yes have seen thatone advertised , its been on autotrader site for a few weeks now, looks perfect as far as milage and interior , but colour is a little, how do you say ,, PINK.... were you suggesting a respray? surely that is not a viable idea as it would cost a packet to get done properly and then you have the all the problems associated with change of colour in a car....

but thaks for the thought, would have been perfect had it only been dark blue......

B,

Just a thought about the re-spray, don't know how much one is, but the price is pretty good, and it fits most criteria.
Have you asked the factory about how many in that colour and engine size they made?

doesnt have to be that specific colour, just looking for a dark(ish) blue one ( but not starmist) with a magnolia or similar interior, so there should be a few around...have considered crystal topaz, but the term rocking horse poo springs to mind....

there's one out there somewhere with my name on.....if I bump into the owner must appologise for that, was a bit intoxicated...( kidding btw).....

if it was a very dark pink( blackberry metallic is quite a nice variation) would be a contender...

very odd cause this time last year there were quite a few for sale that would have been perfect....must have latest style rear lights as well, notthta i'm being fussy or anything......
