At last after fiddling with the car on and off for the last year trying to find my intermittent cutting out problem when COLD, new leads, cap, plugs, rotor arm etc, i then thought the alarm was a problem, the fuel pump, injectors relays, fuel vaccuum faults, carbon cannister etc, I basically couldn't drive the car from cold in any gear (excuse for foot down)as it would produce a funny burning smell and feel like it was running on 6 cylinders before dieing out. i was in two minds to go to the rolling road to have it looked at, I then read that someone else had suggested to reset their cpu by removing it and leaving it unplugged for least 5 mins, DAMN IT WORKS the bloody car goes better now than ever, smooth idling, no hiccups or coughs when driving from cold, fires up straight away, nice clean greyish exhaust colour and no more cutting out, engine seems much quieter and smoother when running, I had to mention it incase anybody else has suffered the same dilemma.
This must go down as a top tip next to the one about rubbing french chalk on the drive belt only, (don't want people getting ideas about french chalk) to keep it quiet.

mmmm, the ECU will go through a 'learning' process for the next 100 odd miles then you will probably find the fault reappears. There is a fault somewhere that needs closer examination unfortunately

I've done about 400 since and still no problems, maybe the cpu was used to the clapped out leads, cap and plugs etc, dumped the ngk's for champion eons much better plugs, the problem is if it does come back where would i now look for the problem ?
