Has anyone had an alarm go bad on them before. Mines a Foxguard and I could not switch it off at all. Two functioning key fobs made no difference - had to disconnect the battery and let the alarm back up run down! Now the entire electrical system is completely dead! Nothing at all despite re-charging battery, not the slightest flicker of any electrical activity. Checked fuse box and nothing apparent there either. Is there a main fuse anywhere? All other fuses look ok. Has anyone ever encountered this before? Any suggestions? Thanks.

It is possible for any alarm unit to pack up, assuming you have good batteries in the two remotes the chances of both of them packing up at the same time is nil. As far as the alarm unit goes it is always worth checking the live and earth going into the unit. If both are present and correct it probably means new alarm time, as far as I know Foxguard themselves as a company no longer exist.

However, the alarm packing up will not have caused the entire electrical system to die a death. It may be worth checking nothing was disturbed or left off whilst disconnecting/reconnecting the battery itself.

Just a thought, but what if the Alarm sounding wasnt the actual fault, as the alarms go off when the battery voltage dies.. might be worth having a look at my thread here:
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=25193&f=8&h=0
..as I had a completely dead electrical system, which turned out to be an otherwise fine battery just basically dying..

Cheers,
Matt.

ugh. thats the only thing that really annoyed me with my Chimaera. after getting the fobs or alarm reprogrammed 3 times (and being stranded in random places; even gave up 30 minutes after i'd visited the dealership to get the system reset!), ended up being flatbedded to local dealer and got foxguard replaced under warranty for a Meta. So far so good!

Hi,

Exactly the same thing happened on my car - fitted with a foxgaurd. If you need to drive the car, email me and I can tell you how to get around the alarm.

I had a new META system fitted for £280, and that works just fine.

Foxguard are out of business now, and i doubt you'll get it fixed if it's knackered.

Is the red light still on to show the car is still immobilised?
