My 944 does exactly the same - likely to be a stuck thermostat.

Might well be on an old unreliable Vw but this is a well known phemonemnonmenon menonm (delete unwanted letters as required) on Chims and Griffs.

Good , glad I'm not the only one with the Overcooling problem (95 Chimaera). Going for the Cold air blast and going to cover part of rad. I work in F1 and this is regularly done. Would not attempt it if living in London as you will be continuously under the bonnet. Go for a different Thermostat that opens at a higher temp, that way the engine physically doesn't pass water thru the Rad until at a higher temp!

Ben

Doesn't make any difference as at the temps we are talking about the stat is shut anyway. The issue is cold air blowing onto the engine!

Welcome Ben, its a favourate subject here. In the summer we have poor air circulation and in the winter too much!

Hmmmm. My '99 Chimaera has just come back from the garage having had its thermostat changed. Before on the cold days, the engine temp never rose above 60C (indicated) when driving around. Now it gets to around 75-80C and I get hot air into the cabin.

I agree that the colder air *does* cause more cooling, but it seems that it only drops my running temp down from 90C to 80C.....
