On our Christmas blast to Brighton last weekend (in all that rain) my back light cover thingy (on the later round tail light version) fell off. Luckily it dangled with a small amount of silicon stuff still attached so I didn't lose it completely.

Question is how do I reattach it - is it just black silicon and where can I get some or is it better to visit Fernies and get it done there?

Thanks

Paul

There's a coincidence.... I just redid both my covers on Saturday. I cut the silicon away with a trusty stanley knife, cleaned all suraces with white spirit then reattached them using Thompson's black roof and guttering sealant, £3.49 a tube from Homebase. It's worked an absolute treat. I put a thick bead around to attach the cover, then filled the gap between cover and bodywork afterwards. Run your finger round in one go to get the smooth finish, then clean the excess off with a cloth soaked in white spirit before it starts to go off. It's completely cured that misting from water getting in. If you look very carefully you can see I've lost the black painted line around the inside edge of the cover, but more importantly it doesn't let water in and it's a lot better than dangling by a thread.

Any good sealant should do it!, I have just replaced my rear lenses with dark red ones to match the paintwork. I used clear sealant and it looks good. As above rub excess with a cloth and white spirit before it goes off and you will be fine!!
