I could do with a new screen as current one has gone a bit 'milky' in places - is it a factory/main dealer part?
It is covered on insurance policy, wondering if anyone's experienced problems with the likes of Autoglass replacing them.

Autoglass did mine 10 months ago - it had also started to delaminate and go milky. They did a good job, all sorted on the insurance. I remember them saying that they did have to source a TVR-specific bit of glass. They reckoned that it had delaminated because the original fitting was "not quite right"

I thought that was a "they all do that, Sir" point?

Some owners have commented on ensuring they know what they're doing before they start. It is apparently useful to point out the costs if they bu$$er up the lining - and that they will be putting it right. Did you check out first?

Buy the glass from TVR yourself otherwise autoglass will add their own 10% mark up, unly you want to pay them to go and fetch it of course

Not too tricky to do, any decent windscreen fitter should be able to do it, couple of hours @ whatever rate your bloke happens to be

Thanks for the replies.
Have spoken to staff at Autoglass (Leic) today and to my surprise they had the screen in stock!
The manager appeared very knowledgeable about fitting them to this car, would need it for the day or overnight. He said the de-laminated milky marks weaken the screen considerably so worth bearing in mind.
He also mentioned that they do all fitments for TMS - not sure if this is the case or not.
Looks like i will give it a go, let you know the results!

Well done but remind them as someone has already said, that you will be looking for recompense if the dash area is buggered during installation.

They have been warned

Can you confirm that your insurance company has agreed to replace the screen because of the delamitation/milky stuff or do you have some other defect as well.

Cheers,

Simon.

On the insurance? I don't understand. Its not accident or stone damage - do you mean on the warranty?

in reply to Simon B's query, the insuarnce company seemed more than happy to replace it on my request regardless of what the damage was. I initially rang to get a chip repaired but on talking to them about other damage without going into detail they arranged replacement with no fuss.
-Tesco's in case you were wondering, usual £50 x/s with no effect on n.c.b.

I'm insured through Sunninghill. When I got mine screen done, I insisted it was done through someone who knows TVRs, not just a windscreen specialist. A bit of extra messing about involved, but got it done through my dealer. Result, a tidy job, no delamination and interior unscathed. Push for a specialist to do the job and you'll get it from your insurer. It's better for everyone involved than arguing the toss over who pays for your now bed interior.

Just my 4 cents,
Steve.

Thanks Matt, that is encouraging, my screens got really bad (milky) this winter, when the weather gets a bit dryer I’ll try it my insurance company (Direct Line) and let you know what they say.

Cheers,

Simon.
