Smooth is fast. Sideways is slow.

yep.

but

Smooth for wins. Sideways for grins.

Well said! I know very well that sideways isn't the fastest way, but I don't go to trackday's to race around in the fastest possible time.... it's to have the biggest grin! For me, sideways does it, for others sheer speed and smoothness is their thing - each to there own! I'm confident enough of my skill and awareness of how my car behaves to do this occasionally out of deserted 2nd gear roundabouts... so why not!

IMHO don't overcorrect is best advice - with 1.7 or 2.2 turns lock to lock, it don't take much to get said slide back. These things ain't taxi cabs!! T

that's the exact reason why I enjoy trackdays. have to be careful tho cos I usually end up with some slower car (eg a hot hatch) right behind me, wanting to prove a point... I just wave them on by so that they can have an accident with someone else in their exotica who doesn't want to "lose face"! plus i dont end up wearing out my brakes etc so much

Well, thanks everyone.
I am suprised that this topic attracted so much attention....
You guys are crazy!
I have had the tail out slightly but the angle was so small I don't think it really counted?

I am very tempted by a track day but what puts me off is having other drivers on the track at the same time - don't want some KEV in a jumped up Nova broadsiding me whilst trying to prove something. Just an open track or airfield and plenty of time.
Anyone know of such an event coming up?

Cheers,
Matt

Bruntingthorpe, but you're to late for the March one, book now for the May event, details can't be too hard to find on here

From what I've read I believe Ride Drive is the TVR Owners Clubs' official 'How to shove it round a corner and live for dummies' - (I include myself in that category). The full day takes you out in the morning where ex-police instructors tell you how to do it correctly, then in the afternoon you're taken to an airfield where you can safely find out how to do it incorrectly - in your own car. Check out the ads here on PH or in Sprint. To be fair it appears no matter how long you've been driving everyone gets a hell of a lot out of these days. The testimonials speak volumes. Mine was a Birthday present which I haven't been able to use yet. I'm waiting for better weather....actually would it be better to do it in the wet ??
