Charging Problem
Discussion
Hi,
I know this has been covered alot, but i still can't find the problem.
When i fire up the car the red charging light stays on until i blip the throttle, and when the car gets to about 3000rpm the light begins to glow dimly.
2 days ago the battery went completly flat just after i'd been out for along drive.
I've had the alternator checked and the regulator on it changed as it was faulty.
Much to my disappointment this didn't cure the problem.
Any Ideas?
Thanks
Mark

First thing to do is check all connections to battery and alternator - If that is OK then stick a voltmeter across the battery with the engine running and it should read a constant voltage anywhere between 13.7V and 14.4V - Then load the battery by switching on all the lights and wipers and the voltage reading should remain constant (you may have to rev it slightly). If the volts drop after loading it or it does not read between the specified values mention above - sounds like alternator is still dodgy
