But what sizes are people running (on standard rims)

At VW had a quick look (I need fronts)

I've got 205 55s (R15) but others ranged between 45 and 60 profile

Would it be best for me to change the wheels to 16 (or aftermarket 17s etc)

Looks are important, but handling much more so

Advise please

Haha, very good

I really would like to know what wheel / tyre / possibly even ride height is going to give me the best handling

Is it worth spending the extra money on 55 profiles (I can get 60's quite cheap) would I need to lower the suspension or is it not worth it for those 5-10mm

When I bought my Chimaera, it came with 205/60R15s on the front (crap Bridgestone ER30 tyre) that I really didn't like. They never gripped very well and looked like balloons - quite a rounded profile!

I had a look on Pistonheads and after reading about various sizes, had a look round cars at the Mid-Essex meet. I ended up getting 205/50R15s which give a quite aggressive nose down stance. They do leave quite a gap between the top of the wheel and the wheel arch (almost looks a little under-tyred) but the handling improvements were vast. The car's front end feels a lot more tied down (used to get a little floaty) and the steering is a lot more direct. This is probably partially due to swapping to Goodyear Eagle F1s, but I am much happier since the swap.

All I can suggest is you have a look at other cars and talk to a few people for opinions...

Well duuh

Thanks, I may well have found a complete spare set of wheels now so I can experiment to my hearts content, was seriously considering getting some aftermarket wheels after seeing Kernikis Chim though

It's one of those Fridays!

I'm been looking at aftermarket wheels myself... Halfords have some wheels in their Ripspeed range that look very similar to the Spider alloys - anyone seen these? You can see a crap picture of them here... Not sure if you can get these in the right size though, and I doubt the combined brainpower of all Halfords employees could tell me!

I think I've got Bridgestone S02 245/45ZR16's on the back, and S03 205/50ZR50's on the front. The back one's desperately need replacing, and I think I'll go for the same (S02's). When they had grip, they seemed to grip pretty well!

Not sure about ride height and so on, the suspension on my Chim was upgraded with adjustable dampers by the guy before me and I don't know whether my cars standard height or not, but the front looks like there's quite a bit of room the play with, and the back tyre fills the arch rather nicely!

Edited to say, heres a pic . . . www.fotango.com/p/eba00283618f00000003.jpg
