Hi all..

on my early chim, since reading the bible v2. I think I have found out the problem with my battery roaming around the passenger footwell on occaisions

Should there be a cover over the front of the battery, the book seems to suggest so.. all I have is a fiberglass "shelf" with sides that the battery sits on.. however I note it has threaded holes in the corners..

..I'm therefore assuming that there should be some sort of cover over the front of it that screws into the holes.. if so has anyone got any idea at all where I could get one..

Cheers
Matt.

Griff ones should have a plate riveted over the top, I expect Chimera ones have a similar thing to this.

Well mine (94 4.0) basically has a square fibreglass bucket the battery sits in with 2 captive nuts in the bottom, this is covered in carpet with a flap on the top to hide/protect the terminals, handy hint if your replacing/removing the battery if it doesn't have handles wrap some gaffer tape around the battery to make a carry strap so you don't have to tip the box up to get the battery out

Wierd.. mine just sits on that "shelf" in the picture above the relay plate.. however if I "boot" the car, it slides backwards, and drops onto the relay plate.. (not good news for the wiper delay module) the footwell carpet sits in front of this (well behind as you look at the car) but is no match for holding back a battery... I'm still

Matt.

Total different then, if I was you I'd get a strip of steel knocked up which spans the front of your 'hole' with 2 wings which tuck around the outside sides, drill 2 holes in the sides of the fibreglass and bolt the strap in place, just an idea, but I'd definatly stop it sliding about

Mine's not like that all not much help am I

But can you have a word with a TVR breaker, they're certainly going to have this sort of thing spare, what ever it is

I'd guess there should be some sort of strap preventing the battery from sliding out

Blimey.... at last I positively know the answer to a question. Yes, there should be a fibreglass plate on front of your box. Yours is exactly the same as mine, the plate bolts to the threaded holes at the corners. Interestingly I have leads that run from the inside face of the plate to the battery, so my terminal connections inside the car are on your missing plate, which also has a carpet flap glued to it, to which I have taped plastic covers, to prevent contact with the metal pipework above it.

I have a very early K reg and mine looks exactly the same as yours, and yes, there should be a cover which bolts into the four threaded holes you can see in the corners of your box.

Unless you can find a broken early model (and it seems as if those with this kind of arrangement are few and far between), you may have to either appeal to TVR, or (my preferred option) bodge it. I'd go for two braided flat steel cables with eyes at either end which could be bolted as a 'X' across the face of the battery using the existing bolt-holes. You might be wise to insulate them first as they will probably pass over the terminals. Or use canvass straps. Christ the options are limitless. You could put a small child in the footwell to hold the battery in...

Why not put a couple of bolts in the threaded holes & run some zip ties in between. Hey presto battery can't move anymore.

Hmph.. TVR thought they'd be able to make me one, however it seems that they can't now..

I'll be making my own then..
