My Rover box'd 4.3 decided to stick itself in 3rd gear last night.

I limped back home and pulled of the centre console etc and removed the gear stick. The ring which the gear level ball sits in was in the bottom of the remote housing and clearly not attached to the remote selector shaft!!!

I fished it out with a magnet (great invention...) and have managed to slide the elbow which the ring is attached to back onto the selector shaft. However it is loose and comes off fairly easily if selecting 2nd or 4th gear, and the gear lever action is very sloppy as the elbow now slides along the selector shaft before moving it.

Has anyone else experienced this problem at all? I assume its a 'box out job to get at the remote selector housing or does the entire centre console/transmission tunnel come out?

Secondly has anyone converted to an R380 'box at all, as recommended by Mark Adams (who I was on the way to see for a rolling road session!!!).

MTIA

Cheers

Having looked in the SD1 haynes manual I am fairly sure that the SD1 remote gearchange is different to the one used in the Chimaera.

Can anyone tell me what the remote assembly on the Chimaera is from.

Many thanks

Thanks chaps.

I think its made from Rover parts, and I could see a part number on the offending piece through the gearstick hole.

Soooo its up on the ramp on Saturday for a looksee.
