Hi,

I need some help or just simple reassurance.

I left the lights on, on my Chimp when parking today, and when I got back the alarm would not disarm.

I managed to get into the car "somehow" and switch the lights off. I also managed to get some charge to the battery from jump leads.

My problem now is that the alarm has been triggered and I can't switch the thing off with the radio key. Could also be battery on radio key, damn coincidence though.

I have left car over night in hope that when I return it will disarm.

Any help or reassurance please.

Is it the standard alarm??, It should not really lose its code!!, You could try pressing and holding about three times and see if it re-codes itself, otherwise try TMS, they are normally quite helpful!!
cheers

Yes it is the standard alarm.

Thanks for the tip.

The radio code has sometimes not worked on a normal occasion.

I was just concerned that when I get back to my pride and joy tomorrow I still wont be able to get it started.

I will try the spare radio key tomorrow in hope that it will do the trick.

I did this a while back (left the interior light on). Once you've managed to get into the car and charge the battery up a bit, you should be able to arm / disarm the alarm. The problem is the alarm goes mental when there's no power (thinks it's throat has been cut!).

It may require the alarm to be reset and resynchronised to the keys. This will require dealer help and may even need the alarm unit to be returned with the plippers to Meta.

For the synching procedure for a Meta alarm (don't know which alarm you've got) - see this post www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?p=1&f=8&t=5902&h=0&hw=meta+battery (I had to replace my remote sender and needed to synch the new fob to the alarm unit)

This only works if the alarm is functional. If the battery has gone flat and the alarm do lally and no fobs are working, then the alarm has to be reset/resynchronised.

Fair enough Steve,
But I'm thinking of the following senario:
1. After the battery went flat - the siren started squawking due to low voltage.
2. The siren would not have been silenced with the remote fobs as it was not responding to a triggered alarm, but was sounding due to the low car battery.
3. While the battery was being recharged, I was thinking that the siren could be removed and muffled in blankets (its battery would eventually run down).
4. Once the car's battery had fully recharged, refit the siren and check operation of the fobs. The siren's battery may then recharge...is it a rechargeable battery?
Any, that's my theory!

Paul.

Thanks for all your help.

I managed to get it going and am happy again

I disconnected the battery and then reconnected while I held down the key fob.

It took a few attempts cus I kept holding the key fob down for too long and "PANICKED" the alarm (and me).

Then the penny dropped and I let go of the key fob after I heard the alarm system disarm.

PPPHEEEEEWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!

Now I can concentrate on the other little niggles.

I don't mind them CUS I AM LOVING THE EXPERIENCE of the Chimp.
