not too fussed about the canvas as i am changing the hood is shot...
Got the petrol tank out...it was just the hose going to the fuel pump that was holding it in place!!!
Snapped the two lower rear chassis bolts upper two rear (Hex bolts) undid no problem.
Removed cover to gear linkage and all that looks ok.

Andy - this might help a bit I hope: www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?p=1&f=8&t=330396&h=0
it turned out i have got 5 bolts holding the roof on and what a git they are to get to.
i have not taken the roof of yet as i am starting to run out of garage space!
Too much comming off to quickly...the good thing is because i am respraying the car as well i can be a bit happy with the
Might have to get the grinder out tomorrow for a couple of very stubborn chassis bolts...
Apart from that i am flying along!

My engine hoist has not turned up!!!!
Has anyone done a body lift with the engine in place?
I am sure i can get enough volunteers to give me a lift but i am not sure it will be possible to lift the body over the engine!!
the good thing is i am going to lift the body backwards so it is only the front that has to clear the plenum!!!
Started on wednesday and ready to lift the body off now!!!!
Clare reminded me today i have 12 weeks left!!!!

Ive found just as easy with engine in manifolds off
thats what i was thinking...it looks like ther is no way the body will come off without taking the manifolds off first...unless lift the front higher than the rear and edge the chassis forwards???
I am gutted that three bolts snapped in the chassis and know i have to drill them out...

I know its a Grifith but I would have thought there would be more room in The Chimaera to do this.

Cheers BB,
There is more room in the chim to remove the engine....but i am considering leaving the engine in place and lifting the body over the engine...then i can shift the chassis forwards.
Hi Andy
I have just removed the body from my Griff and IMO the best way is to remove the manifolds and leave as much as poss on the chassis. This will save loads of time as you can then remove wishbones etc in very little time as the access is great. I also had seized bolts which would have been a pain with the body on. Six big blokes would be the minimum to lift the body as it is VERY VERY heavy.

Hello Mark,
Cheers for that...i shall have to see if i can get any volunteers for this weekend. I lifted the front of the chassis last night, supported the front of the body and then lowered it slowly. Managed to get about a 3" lift at the front but the rear is still solid at the moment. All the bolts are out apart from the lower rear two that sheared off.
I shall be having another go tonight to see if i can get the back end lose.
Also it looks as though there will be just enough room to squeeze the body past the manifolds.
I have got one slight concern...i have taken the doors off as well, i know the body will flex a little, it is just slightly un-nerving wathing the windscreen move and the back end stay still!!!
I am starting to wonder why some people only go for the 9" lift....if you have lifted that far then you might as well go for the full body off and have a good look at what is going on underneath the car????
Andy,if you keep the targa and convertible up,that will help reduce the screen and body from flexing
I'd be suprised on clearence with the manifolds on but good luck,I find also taking off the clutch line (slave to body mount)made life easier.
You pom's need more weetabix, one guy each arch should do it.

Andy's roof is already off so that's not an option.
If there's room on your drive, just have some people lifting under each sill at the same time the front and rear are lifted. You'll need either the front or rear free of bodies to clear the chassis so the body should be well supported during the lift. Would be a damn shame to snap the body in half....
Are you going for a Saturday or Sunday lift, let us know and i'm sure you'll get plenty of help.

Its chasing all them sheep...must keep you aussies fit....
Good idea about the roof and i am seriously thinking of putting that back on...
The plan is to get the whole car out onto the drive.
Dont know if you remember but there is a wall between my drive and the neighbours. Get some long lumps of wood and lift the body as high as possible, put one end of the wood on the wall and then hold the other with the body on top...once all is clear push the chassis back into the garage and then leave the body outside sitting on the drive.
Was thinking of doing it on saturday...that way i have got all day sunday to get the chassis stripped and over to the blasters next week and then i can move the body into the garage...
I have got three or four guys to help already...but as said before...the more the easier.
Well ahead of schedule here...!!!
