Hi All,
well I *finally* got my Gaz dampers in the car (thanks to Mole Valley for a valiant effort, and to Precision for letting me use their modified spring compressor) and the difference is incredible.

However, I'm now in the "can't settle on a setting" phase. I'm currently on 15 clicks from min damping, and it feels a little bouncy. However, I started out on 22 clicks and it bounced like heck... it was hard at that point to tell whether the bounce was from undamped springs, or because the dampers were so solid that the car was bouncing on the tyres.

So, just out of curiousity... what settings are any of you other Gaz owners using? Do you have the new springs or the original ones (like me)?

Well, just to kick things off, I think I've decided that 18 clicks in is closest to the original settings, and 20 clicks is a nice firmer feel without bouncing everywhere.

But, those heavily wavy B-road surfaces still have the car wallowing slightly... more tweaking perhaps? :-)

After a bit of experimenting I have set my rears to 15 counting from minimum,However, I have uprated springs (about 20% I think) so my settings will not apply to you.I hope you have fitted the dampers with the adjustment knob facing the wheel as you can just reach through the spokes, on the 5 spoke wheels, which makes adjusting very easy. I was surprised by the difference made by just a click or two.
I had a lot of trouble with Poly bushes on the Gaz dampers - they were splitting and breaking up within a few weeks.I think the very pleasant lads at TOWER VIEW were getting sick of seeing me (not really - they were very good about the problem)
In the end they went back to an uprated rubber bush which seems to be fine.Much more compliant ride and a lot quieter than the Poly bushes.

I had mine facing down,as I have 7 spokes, and can't get my hands through them. Works a treat on the front, but it would have been easier the other way up on the back. Oh well. I have found a "position" from which I can reach the backs ones fairly well... just about. :-)

Interesting about the bushes. I still have the original ones in mine.

Xain, what did the dampers cost? I need some new ones for the front on my 96 Chim 500. Where did you get them from as well? Any info you can supply is appreciated - see 'Failed CT' thread.
