how much more to run a chimaera over an S?

a V6S to a 4 litre Chimaera. How will everyday running costs compare? Servicing/mpg/etc etc.
any thoughts?
oh, and where do you young'uns get insurance. my current insurers, privelege, have told me to bog off after 6 years of being with them. arse.
anyone estimate a competitive ins. quote for 24, turning 25 in a couple of months, full 6 yrs NCB, garaged and fairly quiet neighbourhood? Any examples?

jesus - that wasnt the impression i got from Podies previous thread. Servicing costs seem comparable, and parts prices cannot be too dissimilar in the whole. So how do you get to this conclusion Steve? A mixture of mpg and the fact that there are so many more TVR own parts rather than stolen from other manufacturers?
Tyres twice the price. 8 spark plugs against 6. Servicing tends to be more expensive and spares certainly are because they tend to be different. Brake and tyre wear is far higher as the temptation to use those horses.
I estimate that servicing a Chimaera/Griff is about £750 a shot. Sometimes a lot less and sometimes a lot more. MPG can be as low as teens in traffic and as high as low twenties. Engine needs Optimax so that increases costs. Oil consumption is higher.
Insurance may be higher as the cars are newer and worth more.

Dealer prices I hope that is, OK, cut that if using an indy.
Insurance and all usual costs are going to be higer, but get yourself a good car and the costs won't be THAT much more ... anyway, you're single aren't you, and young, who the fcuk cares? try doing it with a wife and two kids ... that's a lot more hassle
Edited to say, you're 25ish - by that age I had a Stag - and that went bang as all Stags did then, so what's the problem?

£750 is an average and includes the extra amount for those things that go wrong. It is not what I would pay for just a service but I don't expect to get a simple service all of the time. You don't need pads and discs every service but that can add a good £200 to a bill.
I did say that it sometimes costs a lot less and sometimes a lot more. The problem is that you should not base running costs solely on a service otherwise you will get some big shocks like when my head gasket went and we found a knackered cam. £750 on top of a service. Like when I had an crank seal go at the gearbox end. New clutch and gearbox removal.
I just like to be prepared for the odd problem and really pleased when I have extra money as nothing needed doing compared to pulling my hair out when a problem requires an extra injection of cash.

Hey Schnozz - If you want one and can afford it - Get it - you only live once. Generally the biggest cost must be fuel - Ellejay gets between 10 - 20mpg from her 5.0 depending on how its driven. Servicing cost seems to vary but hovers around £400 to £500. Our insurance is £565 unlimited miles fully comp. The NCB is mirrored from your main insurance - Thats with Sunninghill.
Shnozz have you spoken to M&H yet he's done the down grade already .
Seriously though, as already been said the servicing will probably be half as much again as the V6 S, insurance not a lot more they're all group 20 so it will be just the increase in value (cover) that will push the premium up a bit. Bits that go wrong, well the RV8 aint no 'ford granny' engine it doesn't run on cooking oil so when things go wrong double what ever you'd pay for the V6.
Consumption wise, a good mix of driving over a period should give you 18-20mpg. If you like the shape and the extra boot space for the golf bats go for it, just do it with your eyes wide open.
The only upgrade really though should be to a griff500 but thats a diferent thread .
