As I live in Scotland, I got the best guess chip (installed in a few minutes), which cost me £350 + VAT.
I would recommend the bespoke tuning if you can manage it, as that is most likely to give the best results.

Does that mean youre not very impressed with your best guess chip?

Message for apache:
1) out of curiosity, did you change the air flow meter
2) you mention larger plenum – new one (carbon?) or they modified / enlarged the original one
I’m definitely planning a small trip to UK later this summer in order to muscle a bit my Griffith and would like to collect as much info as possible.
Thanks.

No, I'm very impressed by it, but I bet that if I had had a rolling road tune, Mark could find even more power

Do you need to tell your insurance company about these chip upgrades and if so what sort of additional cost is involved?

You do need to tell them - made no difference to my premium as I had already got uprated Disks & pads. Insured by Sunninghill.

I told them about my modifications, made no difference, in fact the premium came down slightly this year! I'm with Pearts. Rich...

No need, the chaps at V8 don't believe there is much to be gained from this

the plenum is the same, the difference is at the inlet/butterfly, enlarged from 65mm to 72mm

do it, they car feels 'alive' now and I recommend V8 Developments, they have some tasty engines lying around, one of which is for a foreign customer, a 5.3 370bhp monster with nitrous for that extra oomph and the maniac is going to bung it in a Caterham!

I told my insurance company, they knew I'd uprated the brakes so they did't increase the premium.

Pete, very interested in your views of the new 404 cam, (it has been fitted now, yes?). You may remember I have a 435 cam from TVR Power and although it gives continuous torque/bhp (290/280) right up to 6000 revs, I feel with the other mods I should be getting more, like 300/300 would make me happy Any chance we could have a chat sometime? Apache,

I'm also interested in the results of your upgrades. Would be v grateful if you post the results here, or mail them to me thro' profile. I'm just debating what to do when the cam needs replacing ....

Cheers,

Steve

have there been many updates to the standard 4Litre ECU EPROM for the Chimaera? Is it worth updaing the chip from an early serpertine car to the later 2000 spec version? Does it improve driveability at all? At around £16 that would be a cheap improvement. Any one have any thoughts

Except that various other bits are likley to be different and in particular cam profile. To be honest chipping only really works if the mods are made for the engine it was intended. Change anything or move the chip to another engine and it may or may not do anything. In some cases it can even loose power.

I would agree, but I have been told that the TVR chips are the same for 4litre, 4.0 HC, and even the 4.5. ie to keep costs down they compromise ( like other car manufacturers, question is would a new chip improve driveability, not increase power , ie is the compromise a better one.

to my knowledge TVR chips are all the same for say the 4.0L the later ones have a slightly higher rev limit but no detectable fuel map change.
