By the way, plotloss mentioned 3500 miles to run in, is that right, I am assuming something like:
0-500 miles 3000 revs
500-1000 miles 4000 revs
1000-2000 miles 5000 revs
2000 miles + go for it, taking it easy and not red lining v often (with all the torque never need to)

What I was told when I collected it by the dealer (4.5 Chimp, the car, not the dealer!) was:

When cold dont exceed 2500rpm

Then when warm, for first 1000 miles stay under 4000rpm. Then after first service increase the revs by 500rpm every 500 miles. So just thinking out loud:

4500 - 1500 miles
5000 - 2000 miles
5500 - 2500 miles (peak power )
6000 - 3000 miles
6500+ - 3500 miles

Now, having run in many cars for manufacturers in the past (albeit it German ones) this does seem a little extreme but I put it down to the fact that they are squeezing quite a lot of power out of the Rover V8 and its best to let everything fully bed in to avoid problems in later life.

If one of the more engineering minded folks out there can contradict my salesperson then please do so, so I can boot it earlier!

Matt.

I end up going so fast so quickly I am past 3 and wondering if I can slow down fast enough to get back in before the oncoming car (I am by now doing 110ish)

A someone famous once said; "It ain't the overtaking thats the problem - it's the slowing down again afterwards"

And in english please ?

1st column is speed, second column is how long it took + some other stuff.

And me 500...
Start Speed 50.0mph
mph s g ft hp
60.0 1.26 0.35 101 208

this means 50-60 took 1.26 seconds. At 60 mph, 0.35 G is being pulled and you've gone 101 feet.

70.0 2.53 0.34 223 241
This is 50-70

80.0 3.88 0.31 372 264
this is 50-80

midrange acceleration figures are usualy shown 50-70 mph.

Opinion will differ however all seem to agree on keeping below 3000 revs until after the first oil change at 1,000 miles. And keeping below 2500 revs always until the engine is warm. R...

3000!!!

B*gger, B*llocks, Ar$e!

Dealer told me 4000rpm until 1000 miles, sounds like bleeding job creation to me.

'Oh its blown up, they all do that Sir'

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

BTW How much does the 1000 miler usually cost?

K8** PLL was going quickly enough when he clipped my father's M5 in a Nottingham cinema car park last night.
Can't stand the surveillance culture but CCTV can have its uses. CU in court Mr. Griffith 4.3.
On a lighter note I'd like to see comparison figs. for a 993 C4 and a Chimp (just for research purposes, honest ociffer.)

Guys,

I am a bit puzzled here. When I bought my second hand Chimaera a couple of weeks ago it came with a nice little black book, which appart from service history also appears to be a user's manual. I had a studious look at it the other day and details of how the car should be ran in are in there - don't remember them though as my car has already covered more than 12k. Have you checked your black books?

rtierry's right, there's no point guessing the running in info when it's on page 8 of the Chimaera Handbook:-

0-1000 miles < 2500rpm until engine is warm
0-250 miles < 3500rpm whilst engine is hot
250-2000 miles, rpm should be gradually increased until full power and max rpm is achieved.

So to me that mentions that when the engine's hot you can start putting your foot down (gradually) after 250 miles?

Also mentions to avoid excessive braking and cornering for first 500 miles to bed in brakes and tyres.

Cheers........ Andrew

Started with the manual and it seemed a bit vague post 250 miles which is why I asked.

Spoke to Mole Valley today (its been in for a few repairs at 650 miles on clock)and advice was 3000 for first 500 with up to 4000 afterwards till service then build up to full monty. Main thing is not to hold it in first

BTW Andrew (plotloss) I was told there is a rev limiter at 5800 on mine - are 450's different??
