checked that, and one side was off yes, so i bypassed the dial for now, as didnt have solder with me, and have connected the 2 wires together to make a circuit, but no joy.

Thank you for the help Spend, i was expecting stress with a TVr but no quite so early lol

Check 1 side is +'ve or -'ve and then that the other side connects to one of the minor pins on the timer relay housing. It is possible you don't have the correct relay I suppose?

It should be "Lucas/GM Part No.90 069 864, Mk3 Vauxhall Cavalier is a known deployment of it" according to my notes wink

Fitting the park switch whilst the cam on the bottom of the gear is still in the park position can break the park switch...you must bring the arms to the upright position on the screen before you start work, by turning the igntion off with the arms in mid wipe. The motor is special to TVR and I have bought the stock to remanufacture them. Adrian@
Ah, so that's why the metal clip in my replacement park switch refused to seat in the unit.
It kept coming out of it's sliders and eventually lost itself in the square aperture- never to be tempted out again.

Not wanting to waste £7, I aligned the switch into its position (after packing it with grease), stuck some electrical tape round it and then managed to secure it with a long cable tie. Been A-ok for over a year.
I'll know better next time though..

Has anyone a diagram for the motor wiring and its relay?

Spoke to Lucas tech about this exact issue not long ago and he assured me that the 'W' in 14W and 29W does not stand for Watts...

It stands for Wiper, and its a model number.

That said, the armatures in the 29W are slightly longer than the 14W, although the armature diameter is the same, and the number of salient poles, number of windings and diameter of wire appears identical between the two.

If the magnetic flux density provided by the 14W magnets is higher than that provided by the 29W magnets, the stall load of the gearbox might even be the same (F=BIL for those that are interested, where for a given current I, a given motor geometry L, an increase in mag flux density B will increase the torque generated by the motor). Of course, the gear ratio of the worm wheel pair is also of importance when assessing the relative abilities of both motors.

Lets face it, both setups are capable of driving two wiper blades - the note of caution comes when attempting to drive huge long wiper arms with huge long blades on them with a 14W (assuming its performance is in fact inferior to that of the 29W). I reckon the difference in armature length between the two is no more than 25% of the 14W armature length - so the 29W motor might be capable of 25% more torque, not just over 100% more...

Hmm.

AH, how do you test the park switch? I've just fitted a new one and it's toast already although after reading this I suspect that's because I didn't fit it with the arms at 12 O'clock.

What should switch to what? With the three wires connected to the switch I get circa 750k ohms to earth from the red and the yellow wires and nothing whatsoever with the blue one. Operating the switch with the gear pulled does nothing.

As an FYI, the brush assembly from the 16W seems to be a good replacement for the 14W assembly (assuming I ever get the motor going again biggrin)

So whats wrong with mine ? it stops when the screen gets dry..like there is no power ..spray water on it and it works fine.. seems like we are trying to fix TVR`s balls ups..

Similar symptoms to mine. I've cleaned the comm and replaced the brushes, just think I killed my own park switch. I *thought* the wiring on the brushes have been a bit old so I replaced them as a matter of course. There's not a lot in them that can really go wrong smash

Far has im concerned the motor is not strong enough ! maybe its at the limit from new and after time things corrode .Im wondering if the mechanism which moves the wipers can get stiff .i don`t even know how to get to that area..It might just need cleaning and lubrication.

Schucks biggrin Makes sense to get the motor documented, they're very rebuildable as long as the bits are available.
