Hi Corin. Checkout the following.

Sounds like the "air gap" in your transducer may need adjustment or the transducer or speedo itself may require replacement.

Good Luck

I think I remember you've just bought the car - these parts 'ought' to be warranteed.

BTW, apart from the sender unit on the axle and the speedo itself there is also an earth connection that may be loose, the dealer will know about this.

It's probably the transducer sender unit thingumabob though.

Just had mine sorted...

It turned out that the handbrake had scuffed throught the wires to the speed, and as the handbrake aint earthed, sent 12v's down a 0.4v cable and took out the ECU as well.

Replacement ECU and recon the speedo cost me £850 in total

Most exspensive speedo I have ever seen.

Corin - I suggest you nip up to Peninsula or another local independent dealer (they're open Saturday, but call ahead) - they'll take 10% of the time to diagnose the problem than you or I. I've not heard of the speedo wires being cut through before so hopefully you problem isn't that serious!

SOunds like mine. the speedo wouldnt work for the first 10 mins then worked fine, then the gap got longer and longer, and then it would suddenly work for a bit untill it died totaly.

Changed the sensor on the diff ( actualy it mounts where the abs sensor would got on mine)

and it now works fine.

Not suffered from a 999 rollover yet, but I do have a speedo where the needle hits 106 and stops there - even when I slow down. Frantic tapping has so far freed it up before the missus gets to notice. If she does I'll tell her it was you having a test drive cockers

Hmm yes, Merry Christmas to you too, Mr Pope.

Glad to read that your finger's on the mend. Not sure I believe your little story about the light switch, but I won't speculate about the real cause...

PS - My speedo was showing something like 106 last night as well.

Right up until a white Volvo estate with fetching blue lights and luminous stickers came into view, at which point the speedo reading plummeted to 70. Funny how that happens.

I took mine it for its first service yesterday and on the way there I had the wipers on intermittent.

Everytime they went back to the 'park' position the speedo dropped way back, to something like 10mph and then back up to the 80 odd I was travelling.

Bizzare, and something that they dealer hadnt come across before apparently!

Matt.

HELP

On Sunday I drove from Poole to Dorking to pick up my sister and then on to Leicester to visit the parents (I had to do it honest guv it was for a funeral). Put the car in the garage after a fairly damp trip. After the funeral on Monday a number of my Grans friends are back at the parents and would like to see the Chim. I thought OK give a few of the wrinklys (70+) a look. Take the car from the garage and leave standing with the engine running for a couple of minutes and then get asked to go for a spin. Sounds good - well any excuse really and 30 yards down the road

PANIC - No speedo at all

I'm now 180 miles from home and no idea how fast I'm going ! Well - engine note and experience of revs/speed only.

Get back from 3 "scaring the wrinkly" sessions and consult Steve Heaths book and find the sender at the bum end of the gearbox - all looks OK - give the contacts a clean and make sure they are snug. Nothing

I did notice however that the mileometer still works. Does anyone have any ideas ?

Ta

PS Sorry to the Chim and Tuscan on the M25 I did not flash - I saw you too late. Hi to the guys who did flash

If the mileometer is still working then the sensor is probably ok... so duff speedo head.

Yours is a wrinkly car so you might be able to get Speedy Cables to work magic on it or failing that it's a new one if they are still available. Not cheap either way.

Thanks Steve,

It looks like a phone call to Westovers to see if it can be done under warrenty !
If not I hope Speedy Cables will be the answer or a trip to a scrap yard !

TVR fitted more sensor/speedo combinations than the number of times that Arsenal have played with 10 men or less! Chances of finding the exact combination in a scrappy are low. If do you, buy some lottery tickets as your luck may still be with you!
