WILL AN EARLY CHIM ( 1994/5 ) RUN OK ON UNLEADED?
ALSO,ANY SUGGESTIONS ON TYRES, SHOULD I STICK WITH THE 02S OR ARE THERE BETTER?

Chris, I run my '96 4.0 on unleaded no problems. In fact I tried a few tanks of Optimax and found no noticable difference.
Go to SO3's for the tyres, I have had them on for a while now and think they are ace.

THANKS MARK,
ANOTHER QUESTION,
CAN THE EXHAUST NOTE BE MADE TO 'BURBLE' MORE, YEH I KNOW IT'S SAD BUT THATS WHY I WANT ONE.

First of all Welcome to the asylum!

Secondly, YES they can be made to sound louder, get a sports exhaust fitted. Mine pops and bangs at any speed.

Thirdly, "PLEASE DON'T SHOUT" it's better to type in lower case that upper case.

There is an unleaded decision tree in the bible 2 and an unleaded FAQ on my website. The engine should be run on super unleaded/optimax unless it has been adjusted to cope with the regular stuff.

Hi Chris,

My 93 chim was being run on Unleaded when I bought it, however I switched to optimax and found the MPG slightly better, and the peace of mind as the engine was designed for a 98 octane fuel (and even Super Unleaded these days has dropped to 97)

Regarding tyres, there is a huge amount of debate on this subject, just do a forum search on "Tyres" and you'll see.. Personally I have SO2 PP's all round on mine and they are really grippy and recommended by almost everyone on here, however they are becoming like hens teeth these days and also wear out at quite a rate (as will most soft compound/better grip tyres though).

The choice is yours.. there are some good noises about Avon tyres around, however I'm not sure they do a Chimaera size tyre in the right speed rating yet, just ensure whatever you go for is Z rated.

Cheers
Matt.

I have a 94 400 Chimaera and run it on Super unleaded or Optimax. It does appear to prefer the Optimax although there is not much in it. Running on Regular Unleaded creates problems like it does not idle well and cuts out on a regular basis.

With regard to tyres I have recently changed my rear tyres and now have S03's (did have S02's) and have not noticed any difference for road use (even 'spirited' road use)

Removing the baffles is cheaper than changing the exhaust - you will find 'exhaustive' threads on this!
