The Chim has got to go, family reasons.
It has been fun and I'll miss her. Mine has been 100% reliable so I don't know what all the fuss has been about!! I'd recommend ownership to anyone.
Ad in Classifieds if anyone interested. A mint 1997 (P) Ice Blue 4.0ltr, 17,800 with PAS, new CD, kickplates full tvrsh and uprated CD & speakers. Oh and all new SO2's. £16,995, reasonable?
Anyway, really enjoyed the gassing and I'll continue to look in from time to time.
I'll be back with a Tamora in the future I hope!!

Sounds a touch high to me Nora, there's a P reg one in the classis for £15k – but the low miles are good.

Best of luck tho'. Come back soon y'all!

I disagree. A car with that spec is worth £17K. Don't get carried away with basing prices on other cars - they are all different.

It's worth what you can get for it in the market at the time, but after looking at half a dozen nice cars lately, I'd say you were a good 1,500 quid OTT.

I don't want to offend anyone, (I know how defensive all you owners get over pricing) but you might have to anticipate taking a little less money when it comes to dealing.

They are all different, and should be priced individually. However, you do need to have some kind of bracket for each year and model.

Good luck and keep us posted with how you get on.

Agree that the price is OTT.

I've just purchased an immaculate 97 'P' 400HC with 22.5K miles for £14.5 - got price down as needs service in 1.5K and will need 2 new tyres before MOT in July and that it did'nt have PAS - however I also got a TVR plate (worth £500?).
This car was initially advertised at £17.5 - I was the only person who viewed in 2-months.

I've also viewed a couple of 'r' regers at around the £16K-£17k level - but these were scruffy.

The price 'to sell' a nice 'P' reg at the moment is definitely between £14 and £15 - it'll only be exceptions outside this range.

Hope this helps. rgds

The very nice yellow Chimera in classifieds (newer at 97/P but with 40k miles) went for £13,750.

Yours sounds nice but you are almost asking dealer money, and at their price you would get a service, £1500 worth of warranty, peace of mind and some comeback in the event of a problem.

From experience you need to be 15-30% cheaper than a dealer to stand any chance of selling privately.

Hang on

I thought I was the one accused of trying to talk down prices on this site !!!!

I said a couple of weeks ago that I thought £12k was to much for a private 'K' plate 40k miler and you'd think I'd accused Mother Theresa of being an axe murderer from some of the replies I got (see thread "Chimaera values" and "just a thought"). People said I wanted something for nothing etc and that I was, not to put to fine a point on it, a git.

Now people are saying that nice 'P' platers (4 years younger) are £14k tops. Given a £1k per annum depreciation (which must be about right) this means for cars in similar condition and all at around 40k miles {which I know is lower mileage for the older ones) :

Nice K plate £10k - £11k
Nice L plate £11k - £12k
Nice M plate £12k - £13k
Nice N plate £13k - £14k
Nice P plate £14k - £15k

....all private sales

I understand Xenradio paid £10,700 for an 'N' plate with 60k miles recently. Yes, I know it doesn't actually go, but that's all he paid all the same

I'm going to look at a really nice 'K' plater (private) this weekend. Would I be mad to pay £12k no matter how nice ???

DEX,

don't really want to open up this bag of worms again.

but at the end of the day it depends on you.

I'm sure if you've got £12K to spend that you can go up to £15K - why not look at some 'P' platers and see what you find.

I looked at around 8 cars before I found the 'exact' right car - before then I put in a couple of bids for cars that were 'allright' - but I found the owners would'nt shift on their price - and I would'nt shift on mine as the cars had some faults - in one case we were only £250 out !

If I were you though I'd stop thinking about it and get out there - it's difficult looking as these cars are scattered all over the place - and you can't tell what they're like till you visit and take a good look over - and I'm convinced that once the spring arrives prices will firm.

The hard thing is not buy the first car you see - I first looked at 'brightyellowtvr''s car - it was a 97 'P' that he purchased for just below £14K - but I decided the colour was not for me - although everything else about the car was 100%. - I then compared all prices off that, and my bids - and eventually I've dealt. - but's it's been harder than I expected.

Go and see the car, then view others.

rgds - hope that the others don't start giving you grief again !

Reasonable price?

It is hilarious to see how this issue without exeption creates a heated discussion here.

There is no such a thing, instead ther is "sellers reasonable" and "buyers reasonable". I am not currently buying nor selling and therefore I do not think having big anticipations in one way or another on the price of my/any TVR.

To me, just by comparing with the other current offerings, your asking price seems a bit high but the mileage is very interesting. In my personal pareto-optimal calculations these do not meet.

But go ahead, if you get interest with this price, excellent!

Market is right, I am wrong.

Ahhhhhh Xen. So glad you could join the adults here.

Yours then. £10,700 seems sooooo little for an 'N' plate. You must be the world's greatest negotiator - or maybe the cars a ruff as a badgers arse - or maybe that's what they're really worth and you (and whoever you bought it off) are the only people in the world who realise that (everyone else thinks that an 'N' plate is £13k).

But lets face it Xen - what do I know - you're the worlds greatest expert on everything aren't you and you've already told everyone what an 'XR3i tyre kicking gurlie" I am !!

dex, lets leave our differences out of these forums because they take up useful room from those(like me)who enjoy using the site in a constructive way.
no my car is not 'rough' but there are better examples out there - i guess i kinda want a 'project' car. i'm not very knowledgable about tvr things, i def dont know everything! but i am learning, albeit slowly.
you are in sight of crossing the line between 'funny' and 'sad' - dont blow it for yourself..

(but i bet you've tried)

.......and Xen you're a cheeky young git......

I don't think there's a fine line between funny and sad. There is a fine line between funny and not funny.
I wonder which you are in ???

"hang on let me guess you haven't got a TVR have you" great line Xen ! Not only do you know everything about everyone else (I'm a "tyre kicker" remember) but you are clearly also the worlds greatest wit. I am truly blessed to have such rich interaction with you.

Look back and I think......yes...... YOU started the abuse thing when I was trying to be sensible and reasonable

Apologies to others being subjected to this but I guess it beats reading about someones electrical problem (or does it ?)

I've viewed Lee's car and I must say it is a prime example – only thing was it was over my budget slightly.

However it is exactly as he describes, unmarked ice blue paint and a nice blue interior.

But I now like green ones best

Mikey (and a green 4.0HC)

RE: Prices for Chimaeras

Right, its getting dull and boring now with regards to how much they are worth and not paying £3 over the "supposed" reasonable price.

It is all down to condition, colour, specification and a whole load of other things. If you can get a buyer for a car at a high price then good on you - if you get it for cheaper then great. But they are 100% specialist cars and should be treated as so. They are not Mondeos where there are 100 waiting in Cannock - their value is totally dependant on hundreds of conditions.... There are no fixed guideline prices....

I paid £14k for a 94 4.0HC. Was I ripped off - NO. The car has cost be a total of £100 (and that was my fault). Not only am I happy with the colour, but I am also happy with most other things - except the seats which are showing their age a little, but what do you expect for 8 years old!!!

Personally I would never pay over £10k for a BMW, but that doesnt stop anyone else...

Cheers,

Paul
