First of all, a big thanks to everyone on Pistonheads for many months of gassing, debate, argument, humour, discussion, fact-finding and enthusiasm which have today culminated in me buying my dream Chimaera from Mole Valley.

It's a 4.0HC, N reg, one owner from new, FTVRdealerSH
38k example with a two tone green full leather interior.

And I'm made up!!

Pick it up in a week or so.

I couldn't have done it without you.

Mike (and a green 4.0HC)

Congrats Mike. With a car like this one, you are contemplating miles of happy, trouble-free motoring! Hope to see it sometimes - are you doing the back home day in May?

Congratulations - I too have a 4.0HC and it pulls like a train. Nice and smooth too - could it be smoother than the 4.0? Still, heres hoping that you get it in time to make the best of the current nice(ish) weather. It is supposed to be dull and raining after next monday - is it just me or does the weather on the TV take on a whole different meaning now?

Cheers and congrats again.

Congratulations , life will never be the same again , the most fun you can have on four wheels for a realistic amount of money , you will drive it just for the hell of it and there aren't a lot of cars with that kind of hold on you ! Believe me I've tried a few!! Roof off , foot down for miles of smiles !

It kinda happens in this order.......

Well done MikeyT you jammy sod.

I think there's maybe a lot of sense in plumping for a dealer although there are some bargains out there in the classifieds!

is there such a thing as a 4.0HC or is it part of the myth that is tvr. I know there is a 4.0L, a 4.3L a 4.3HC, some 4.5's and even 5L but a 4.0HC????

Ben, you're talking Griffs I think!

There is a 4.0HC (275bhp) and it replaced the 4.3 (I think). There is no such thing as a 5.0*HC* however, but I stand to be corrected.

And by 4.3HC do you mean BV? (Again Griff)

Wahey!

I wish you many happy miles of motoring.

Steve (and Bright Yellow 5L Chimaera)

P.S. All 5Ls are HC (High Lift Cam if I remember right)

nope HC is high compression in my understanding

i understood the chimp is a 4L, 4.5L or a 5L with some early cars having the same 4.3L as a Griff?? The 4.3 engine came in 2 flavours, standard or a big valve which increased power from 275 to 305ish bhp.

But a 4.oL HC i have never heard of, i thought all of the 4L cars had about 240bhp?

There absolutely is such a beast! Or at least I hope there is as I've got one parked outside the office right now ! Look on the cover thingy on top of the engine (technical talk, eh ... don;t you love it!) and is says 400HC to denote this model ... also the specification / performance figures in the handbook differentiate between the 4.0 and the 4.0HC with the HC numbers in brackets … for example 240bhp (275bhp)

My 93L has a 250 on the top of the plenum chamber (polished intakes ?) indicating 250hp (in the handbook it also states 250). It does not have the BV or high lift cams as far as I am aware.

There is definitely a 4.0HC.

In fact I'm picking mine up today - 'P' reg - Cooper Green - 23K miles - immaculate. Can't wait. ::

May change my nickname to 'Green&mean' - but know that I'll be barred for a few days - will open new thread then.

Thanks to everyone on the sight who has helped with the various prognosis of all the problems the car's I've viewed have possessed - actually most were minor faults.

That it can, especially when a Max Power type in his Saxo VTi decides to have a go off the lights. Oh how I laughed!!
